Lotus Elise, Exige prices all jacked up
Lotus has jacked up the prices on the Elise and the Exige, according to The Car Connection. The smaller Elise, which has adaptive headlights and an unfavorable exchange rate for 2007, will go for $43,990, up from $42,990 for the 2006 model. The Exige, which is essentially an Elise with a hard top and turbocharged four-banger putting out 220 hp, will go for $56,990 -- quite a steal when you consider its supercar-worthy 0-60 time of 4.1 seconds and top speed of 148 mph.
It's rumored that the two vehicles here aren't the only ones that will be offered in the U.S. market in the coming years. The Esprit, which should become available in the United States in late 2008, has been spotted tooling around Europe as a tester, and other models are expected to be on their way.

I thought the 220hp turbo was only the Exige S. Since when was that offered for $50k?

There are a couple of different versions of the Exige. The "Exige S" has the Supercharger, but the Base Exige does not, and goes for around $50K.

Correct, you can get the Exige S with the supercharger, the regular Exige has the same engine as the Elise (same car, different bodywork). Now if you want to see some fun you can look over at the ForceFed turbo kits for both the elise and exige, after riding in one I can say it is great fun and makes a great car better.

"The Exige, which is essentially an Elise with a hard top and turbocharged four-banger putting out 220 hp, will go for $56,990"
The Exige is not essentially an Elise with a hard top. Its a different car. Please research before posting such false things.
Also as someone mentioned before the Exige is a N/A motor the Exige S is a supercharged.

Joey,
The Exige IS basically an Elise with a hard top. The marketing idiots might insist that they are two totally different cars in their PR drivel, but that does not make it so. They use the same power plant family, the same transmissions, the same architecture are roughly the same size, shape and share most other mechanical components. The body pannles are different, but extremely similar.
I wish people would stop doing stuff like this, letting automobile company marketing douchbags twist the language and the facts in an effort to 'be different.' Yes Mercedes, I'm looking at you, what with insisting that people call your 4 door sedan a 'Coupe.'
Oh, and I say all of this as someone who's put money down to wait in line for an Exige S.

I could never cough up dough for the Lotuses. They're nice roadsters, but I'll take a Noble any day.

None of the current Lotus cars are turbocharged from the factory. Only the Exige S has a supercharger.

As said before, the Exige shares the same motor with the Elise, the difference between the two being modified bodywork designed to enhance downforce. The Exige S in Europe does have the supercharger, but we don't get that stateside. There is a very, very limited number of turbocharged Exiges coming over, but they're listing for over $70k (and you can be sure dealers will be marking that up).
