Drivers vote on Britain's "Most Boring Road"
The envelope please... Britain's Most Boring Road award goes to (drumroll...) the M6 Motorway! The country's longest and busiest motorway was the hands-down choice in a poll of drivers, who were undoubtedly influenced by the M6's track record as one of the worst roads for accidents and traffic jams. The 230 mile M6 hits a rush-hour peak of 180,000 vehicles, a significant step up from its initially planned capacity of 72,000.
Runner-up in the Most Boring competition was the A30 ("284 miles of bottlenect traffic"), while the third spot was claimed by Britain's first motorway, the M1 ("200 miles of congestion").
A similar survey this summer named the M6 as the road drivers most hate to use.

Agreed. Western Illinois is the worst. Or western Oklahoma -- lets see what a Brit says after driving from Denver to Kansas City.

At least in the boring plain states you cruise along pretty good. These guys are just sitting there in traffic.

St. Louis to Chicago, 300 miles of I55, is generally dull and laborious if you do it in 4.5 hours (65 speed limit for most of it, even in the 3 lane wide roads north of Springfield, and some 55mph 3 lanes near Chicago for extra insult), a bore if you do it in 4 hours, happening if you try for 3 hours, and superfun if you gumball it in 2 (gas up midway at Bloomington)

Sign of goold old british ruling class arrogance (those people don't have to drive). They think cars are evil and they believe building more roads and easing congestion invites more car on the road (can't have that, cars are evil)
Kind of like Portland, OR.

Fact check, the M6 was Britain's first motorway, not the M1. The number designation refers to the "A" road that the motorway roughly follows, not the time it was built.

No roads boring! Those open spaces we have keep you unbored if you're watching for the cops. The last time I drove back to the SF bay area from central Iowa (1919 miles) it took me 20 hours even, do the math. Lots of open road, nothing on it. Boring? Not at all.
