The final Scion limited edition vehicle of the year lands in dealerships next month. The Scion xB Release Series 4.0 gets doused in Maziora Torched Penny paint, a color-shifting finish that changes depending on your viewing angle and/or how light plays off the car's surface (similar to the Mystichrome finish made available on the 2004 SVT Mustang Cobra) . In this case, the colors morph into shades of brown, bronze, and gold.

The color has been used in Japan already on various show cars and on a JDM special-edition bB, and while the tricky hue clearly won't be for everyone, it is definitely interesting. We're sure that Scion will have no trouble finding 2500 takers for the multi-colored miniwagon. In addition to the deluxe paint, the Release Series 4.0 receives some visual aids in the form of a rear spoiler, Modellista grille, and rear bumper protector. Everything's color-keyed, of course. Inside, the floormats tell the occupants that yes, this is a Release Series Scion. It also gets multicolor dash lighting, a new shift knob (on cars with manual transmissions), and a numbered plaque.

The cost of this brown chameleon is the xB base price, $14,030, plus an additional $1,930 (automatic) or $1,980 (manual).

Scion Announces Pricing For xB Release Series 4.0
The Final Limited Production For 2006

October 13, 2006 – Torrance, CA - Scion, of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., announced today that the fourth and last limited production Scion for 2006, the xB Release Series 4.0 (xB R.S. 4.0), will hit dealer showrooms next month.

The 2006 xB Release Series 4.0 will come in Maziora Torched Penny exterior paint. Maziora, by Nippon Paint Co. Ltd., is a polarized paint line that changes color depending on the viewing angle or light reflection. Maziora was also recently featured on a Japanese domestic special edition bB and has been used on project and show cars.

The xB R.S. 4.0 features color-keyed taillights, rear spoiler and Modellista speed grille; rear bumper protector; and Release Series wheel covers. Interior features include Release Series badged floor mats and multi-color under-dash light and cup holder kit. A color-keyed Razo shift knob is standard on manual transmission models. An individually numbered brushed stainless steel badge completes the uniqueness of this vehicle.

Only 2,500 units of the xB Release Series 4.0 will be built. The xB Release Series 4.0 model will carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $1,930 over the base price of the xB for models with automatic transmission and $1,980 for models with a manual transmission. The base MSRP for the xB starts at $14,030.

When I first saw the XB at Conerstone , I thought it was THE Ugliest car I had ever seen, however in the past year I have done a little research, test drove and yes, I ordered one. Mainly for the great gas mileage but also for the capacity inside, leg room front & back, I am 6' and all legs so I need it, my son is 6'3" and pretty much the same , of course He won't be sitting behind the wheel for awhile! I have never considered myself a nerd, but hey who cares!!! I am 40+, considered the cool mom and at a point in my life, where "cool" is a state of someone elses mind, rock on nerds!! But I am pissed because I haven't gotten a call from my dealer saying my car is in, I am suppose to be getting the XB 4.0.

I am sure this color scheme will be around for quite a while. I have seen this scheme, or at least something similar, on a lot of show cars. The problem with the paint itself is that its insanely expensive.

I dont know exactly how the paint itself works or is made. I would have to ask a friend of mine...he works in a body shop and they get Mystichrome Mustangs every once in a great while. Supposedly they are a bitch to work on if there is some dings and dents...

I was skeptical about buying an XB, but once I saw the standard features it came with, it's gas consumption rating, it's roomy cabin, price, etc., I bought one. I bought the RS 4.0 and it's the greatest. I'm not a nerd, but everyone who has a close-minded view about the XB's many advantages is a MORON!

      To all the bashers...

The XB is an expression of one self. Its lack of conformity is what separates it from every other vehicle on the road. How fun would it be if people in the world drove similar cars? Does everyone really want to drive a car that you can see on every corner and every Thrifty car rental lot? I certainly home not! Secondly, the XB is a very fuel efficient and practical vehicle perfect for deliveries, service work, advertising, etc. In addition, it is 100% made in Japan with unbeatable build quality for the price. I’m the proud owner of the 2005 XB that just rolled over 90K. Just changed the oil, check the spark plugs, and add gas; you’re set to go!

I realize not all may like its unusual three box shape, but to me pinch of liberal unconformity that this world needs more of! In regards to the geekmobile comment, perhaps that's the XB place in life. I'm a network technician and routinely use my XB for service calls and business related work.

Great paint...that's really striking. They will have no problem selling these at all.

There is a Mystichrome SVT cobra in my city...I see it every once in a while and it definately stands out. Definately not your average artic-white Mustang!
