Nissan prices the new Sentra from $14,750

Nissan has just announced that it will be pricing the new 2007 Sentra from $14,750, which does not include shipping charges. Add destination costs and Automotive News reports the number's more like $15,365. That cost of entry includes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that musters 140 horsepower and 6-speed manual transmission. Four other models are available including the Sentra 2.0 with CVT ($15,550), Sentra 2.0S with 6-speed manual ($15,650), Sentra 2.0S with CVT ($16,450) and Sentra 2.0SL with CVT ($18,400). The 2.0-liter four is the only engine available, that is, until the Sentra SE-R returns with a more potent mill for performance enthusiasts. If you're interested in the standard Sentra, however, it's available as of today.

The starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the all-new Sentra, which receives a significant boost in interior space and an all-new 140-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, is $14,750 for the Sentra 2.0 with 6-speed manual transmission. The new Sentra is available in four other models: Sentra 2.0 with CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) at $15,550; Sentra 2.0 S with 6-speed manual, priced at $15,650; Sentra 2.0 S with CVT, $16,450; and Sentra 2.0 SL with CVT, $18,400.
A popularly equipped 2007 Sentra 2.0 S, priced at $16,450, is $50 less than a comparable 2006 Sentra 1.8 S with Special Edition Package ($16,500 MSRP).
The new, roomy interior features an array of available comfort and convenience features, including a 60/40 split fold flat rear seats with a completely flat seat back angle for better utilization of the wide trunk pass-through opening; the Divide-N-Hide Trunk System, which creates a hidden trunk storage compartment; and an integrated overhead compact disc holder that holds up to eight CDs. Along with more roominess and enhanced performance, the 2007 Sentra will be offered with the widest array of premium equipment ever – including leather-appointed seating, Intelligent Key keyless entry system, Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System and premium Rockford Fosgate-powered audio system with 6-disc changer, 8-channel amplifier and 8 speakers.
The dramatic exterior of the new Sentra addresses one of the major "unmet needs" of compact sedan buyers – style and emotion. In keeping with Nissan's distinctive design language, the new Sentra features a sporty front end with Nissan signature headlights and grille. The profile includes a long wheelbase, short front and rear overhangs, crisp character lines and large door openings, while in the rear the high deck accentuates the roomy cabin and cargo area.
Available packages for Sentra include Satellite Radio (XM or Sirius), Convenience and Convenience Plus Packages, Rockford Fosgate Audio Package, Sunroof Package, and an Alloy Wheels/ABS Package. Available factory-installed options include splash guards, front fog lamps, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and a rear decklid spoiler.

#1 - Starting MSRP for the Civic SI is over $21,000. And it's um, a 2 door.

Well done, Nissan. Lots of neato features, a segment-exclusive dark brown leather option, and strong interior volume and power numbers. I'd buy this if it puts up nice MPG numbers and the powertrain is more refined than previous Nissan 4 bangers.

Nissan would prefer that you think of it as the "poor man's Maxima."

I'll get these figures into my database so we can see how they truly compare to the 2006 and the competition.

It's cheaper than the Civic, but not by enough. Considering the Sentra isn't going to win anyone over on looks, they needed to do it on price/features. I don't think that has happened.
The new Elantra is going to undercut the Sentra on price by at least a $1,000 and offer all the same ammeneties.
I like what Nissan has done with the Versa and Altima, but the Sentra continues to be their standout blunder-mobile.

IT'S AN ECONOMY CAR, ASSHOLES!

Much more defined looks from the previous wallflower. It takes a real stand in its appearance The Civic out-the-door is just too overpriced for the 'economy' segment. Good for Sentra and Hyundai for being price competitive- for starting to do to the current big guys what the current big guys did when THEY were contenders to the then big guys.

Honestly, this car is the odd one that I don’t think looks too good in that color. I almost pucked when I first saw the Maxima photos but in real life that car is quite a looker and gets better and better every time i see it. I will wait and see when i see this one on the streets because I am getting the same mixed feelings i first had with the Max so.........

Why do economy cars keep getting a bigger space between the top of the fender well and the hood? It looks ridiculous and it seems like it is getting worse and worse with every new car coming out. Ion, Corolla, now this. I don't know why an economy car needs to be as tall as a minivan.

I call it the 'cow-catcher front end'.
It's because of European safety standards for pedestrian impact. The bumper goes straight down to make it less likely the legs of a pedestrian from getting pulled under the the car and the hood is supposed to be a deformable landing zone. The angle of the grille is supposed to keep the pedestrian from hitting the windshield.
I don't think I'd buy one, but I'd rather be hit by one than previous Sentras.

right, caue teh Civic 4 door is a looker huh,
than is uglier than this car and the Si 2 door coupe does not compete with this.
at 15k the Nissan is about 2k lower similarily equiped, that be like a year of free gas and if you're in the market for such a car 2k is enough
what did you expec a 5k difference in price
anyhow i saw the real thing in black and it looks ok for what it is - yet i'd opt for a used midsize car in the 14k range.

#11: So it will feel larger than it is. Also, market research has probably shown that people driving small cars are especially concerned about being buried in traffic.
I looked at the Sentra vs. the Civic after entering the new pricing. After adjusting for feature differences--the Sentra tends to have more features--the Nissan is $900 to $1,600 less. The more you load up the Sentra, the better it compares.
The starting price difference 2006 to 2007 is a bit misleading, as the new car has a much higher level of standard equipment. However, Nissan's point that the 2.0S is $50 less than the 1.8S with Special Edition Package is also misleading, as optioning the former up to the level of the latter yields a difference of $2,340--even before the 2006's $2,250 rebate. Adjuting for remaining feature differences cuts this gap by nearly $1,900.

good pricetag, good performance, it's a sentra with a 2 liter engine for 15K, think about it. If you lowered that and put rims (as an SI has), sure you won't get the same power output, but you'll get decent output especially with the cvt, and you'll have a nice looking, affordable ride, so that's about 17K and you've got yourself a lowered ride with nice wheels and even a stereo system, if you're lucky and wise. So why not?
no, i'm not saying rice it up. thx.

You can get a leather interior, decent sound system, and still be cheaper than a Civic.
And you don't get the Civic's droopy taillights.
Not that the Sentra is pretty to look at, but it's a decent, handsome, formal transportation device.
But why anyone would buy this crap after November is beyond me. Having the 2007 Altima in the show room will kill all Sentra sales.

you know what the sentra should've been? a 5-door hatch like mazda 3. that stubby trunk just looks too weird here. a hatchback that sits slightly lower than the sedan would be great for nissan's product line. this way, the civic nor the elantra could be direct competitors, and would most likely fall just below mazda 3 in terms in dynamics.

What I don't like about this toy is it's jacked up in the back, like the last Neon. Makes it look like the car is a hot rod from the 70's. UGLY. And the front end proportion problem has to do with the new ped laws, as mentioned above. Lowering the car slightly would solve all these problems and make it look much more athletic/sporty. What I DO like about the new Sentra is it's offered with wood trim. That's a nice luxury touch that is rare in this class. (I am sure I am the only who likes wood trim anymore)
