Spy Shots: 2008 Nissan Skyline GT-R!
Lo and behold when I checked my inbox did I find word of spy shots of the upcoming and highly anticipated 2008 Nissan Skyline. Here they are courtesy of KGP Photography and the pocketbook of Winding Road. We've been waiting anxiously for more news on the Skyline ever since we saw the GTR-Proto concept that was debuted back in 2005 at the Tokyo Motor Show. These shots afford us a look at a Skyline that appears to be very close to production spec with minimal shrouding over the front clip and rear. Despite the coverings, we see a two-door coupe that doesn't stray far from the GTR-Proto in appearance and, quite frankly, looks drop-dead sexy. Look at how the roofline just falls from the top of the A-pillar into a sharply kinked C-pillar. Lovely.
Unlike previous iterations of the Skyline, this coupe is not based on a sedan, but rather is bestowed its own two-door architecture that will likely pay dividends in the car's performance. We don't have much word on the Skyline's mechanicals, but Winding Road's Chris Paukert surmises a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 derived from the 350Z's powerplant putting out somewhere in teh range of 450 horsepower and 370 ft-lbs. of torque. All-wheel drive from the previous GT-R's electronic ATTESA ET-S torque-sensing system is onboard and four-wheel steering is also a possibility. Check out more photos by following the read link.

kinda jus looks like a souped up 350/g35 and with so many of thoese runnin around i thought do something more radical, but 450 hp for what ,I hear, around 80 grand and the classic skyline, why would u ever buy one, i feel most people wiht that money what there badge, and nissan isnt gonna cut it, if trys to compete with the carrea it will faill casue of it, if trys to compepte with the z06 and viper it will fail for bein slow, the problem with the skyline is the people who love it arnt people who can afford it, its like a faster 80 grand evo

although z06 is a cool ride, new gtr will compete with 997 turbo that ran whole 3sec faster than Z on Ring. and another thing, you don't need same output to compete with Z, for instance 997 GT3 ran a sec quicker than Z on Ring, I know it ain't much, but 415hp car matching a 512hp time is an excellent result. mind GTR has 450 officialy, maybe they'll even boost up to 480, i wouldn't be surprise. so 80 grand - vipers money - for a car that is run as fast as 997 turbo is an excellent bang for buck. now we have to see what answer EU GM will come up with. Supervette perhaps? And Porsches GT2 RS???

That article is filled with errors, as is this autoblog article itself. The Skyline is OUT IN THE US. As an Infiniti G35. The Skyline and Skyline GT-R brands have been separated after the R34 GT-R. Hence saying 2008 Skyline GT-R is plain wrong. It's the 2008 GT-R. The G35 is called Skyline in Japan.

Gorgeous. It's been very refreshing lately to see so many design concepts making a near perfect transition to production model.

WOW THAT car is absolutely amazing. I cannot wait until 2007. the This technological marvel will destroy the cave man developed ("hey lets cut corners and SHOVE 7 LITRE engine to get 500 easy HP", and don't get me started on the leaf springs...)corvette Z06.
If anyone follows the Japanese racing scene(the old jgtc now super GT) the gt500 r34 skyline gtr (now gt500 fairlady Z/350Z) uses the VQ30DETT engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VQ_engine#VQ30DETT
a 3.0l V6 Twin turbo which would be bored out to 3.7/3.8l (VQ38DETT/VQ37DETT?)which could easily be capable of 500+ bhp.
This is regardless of the rated 473bhp for the 3.0l race engine which (as the rules state) the maximum output allowed for gt500 class is any ware between 470 and 500bhp.
add the seamless shift,4ws i cannot wait until 2007/8

hmm.. based on 2 door underpinnings...
that looks more like the altima/g35 chassis not the 350z/g35 coupe chassis.

WHY OH WHY DIDN’T THEY KEEP IT “VETTE FLAT” LIKE THE CONCEPT ART?

I have been saying the same thing as you DREW ever since they announced this baby “the problem with the skyline is the people who love it aren’t people who can afford it”. At 80K+ there are sooo many choices, especially from Europe! An 80k Nissan? – They should have simply badged it Skyline (brand), GTR (model) and sold it at Infiniti dealers. I’m all distraught now. I have been looking soooo forward to this beast. Sold the 350z and have been saving pennies too. Well, the only thing that will save the 08 Skyline GT-R is a true sense of its history by Nissan (i.e. living up to it) and “sick performance numbers” compared to the 997 turbo and Z06 (viper is a pig). We shall see...

number 10
NO PRICES released
NO "official" performance figures released
the torque figures are based on the fairlady I VERY much doubt the engine would much in common with the 350z engine like the 300zx/r32 gtr, this is Nissan's flagship car not a boulevard cruiser.
please do your research before expressing dross on autoblog.

Technological marvel?
have you ever heard of a VR4?
the Z06 is also more advanced than you think, with titanium connecting rods and valves(BTW are massive 2.5" exhaust), hand built engine, by one technition per motor. Gm spent a lot of time cutting weight on everthing they could, aluminum chassis, and carbon-fibre fenders and bonnet to replace the plastic, massive brakes, and one of the best stability control systems in the world, Electro-Magnetic shocks (you know the ones ferrari borrowed) and whats not to love about a giant engine in a tiny body? Cobra 427? 67 427 Stingray? Its nostaligic and at the same time very advanced.

80k USD? 80k bananas? this is a worldwide blog please be more clear with your numbers.
Who officially mentioned that figure? do you work for GM(soon to be made redundant then)?
Nissan will do the smart move and make it FASTER (pre 7:42.9 time around the nurburgring, ), CHEAPER ($64,000 or less) than the corvette z06 JUST because Nissan are aware of the effect Internet message boards have on the legend that is the gtr therefore sales.

I know better marketing minds than mine were behind the decision, but I still believe whole heartedly that this thing should be an Infiniti.

"have you ever heard of a VR4?"
what do you mean? The Mitsubishi galant, 3000gt/gto? i cannot read your mind?
