Ridiculous ride height on a Ford Galaxie 500

Some will certainly look at this lifted Galaxie 500 and ask, "Why?" But to the people who build such things, the better question is always, "Why not?" Featured in the gallery at King of the Street, this massively raised Galaxie 500 is one of the most extreme examples of a growing trend in the aftermarket world, big rides. And that's what King of the Street is all about. Self-described as "The first and only publication catering to this fast growing Lifestyle: "RYDING BIG".
When 20s, 22s and 24s get to be too mundane, upsize the ryde instead. Starting out with a boat of a car like the Galaxie makes some sense, though. Offering what appears to be two feet of ground clearance, driving this bad boy through flooded streets will be a piece of cake, and the body will look just perfect atop the waves lapping at its fenders. Far be it from us to cast judgment on these enterprising young artists, but the monster truck look for the street really doesn't grab us. Check out King of the Street for even more ride height wackiness and click here for the full gallery.
Thanks for the tip, Rob!

I'm sure that Speed Channel already has a "reality" show that'll feature morons like this....

That's nothing. This guy around my house has a bubble Caprice on 30" wheels. If yall think that is something, check out an EastSide Riders DVD. One of my friends has a Delta 88 on 24" wheels. It looks nice too.

Seems like all you need to be "street" these days is to replace letters in words with close alternates... or was that the way you sell food stuffs to children in between cartoons?

My dad had a Galaxie 500 when I was growing up.
Thankfully it wasn't as stupid looking as this.

Old school cars look sweet on 26s and 28s. I love that right there.

That is a sweet looking ride. Way more character than one of those cookie cutter Asian import Civic Si's a lot of you negative posters probably drive.

Should be outlawed because highriders like that do too much damage to other cars when there's a crash.
That thing and vehicles like it are for morons.

No taste, no class, no restraint, but if you wanna be gaudy there's no better choice. Hope this trend stays in the south...and doesn't come near Cali.

Not my cup of tea, but that lift job looks professionally awesome! And at least the guy didn't chop the fenders to open the wheel-wells.

Here's "Why Not"
A)alot of states have a Bumper height restriction for vehicles (24" height from the bottom of a bumper in Nevada) Though rarely are citations given, if you get in an accident in a car like that and somebody dies, then that's vehicular manslaughter. If I remember if you make modifications like this to a car to make it unsafe for OTHERS, then you are to blame. (I believe a case like this happened in Scottsdale)
B) Increasing height like that without increasing track is a VERY stupid thing to do, especially when the car is a 2 ton piece of steel. In an emergency lane change that thing would roll worse that an Exploder on firestones.
I wish more states would do what one is. (kentucy?) If a car's ride height is changed, it needs to be taken to the DMV, be subjected to an emergency lane change at a required speed, and if your vehicle gets damaged or totalled, you're SOL because you should have known better.
