Directions no charge: Cadillac offering nav systems for free
In a gesture of unwavering generosity, Cadillac announced yesterday that select 2007 models would come equipped with free satellite navigation. The offer will end on January 2nd 2007 and is only available on "specially-equipped" models.
What directional joys await those of you willing to drop the coin on a new Caddy? It's pretty much the standard navigation fare, with a dash-mounted LCD displaying turn-by-turn directions, with the option of a sultry vixen barking orders at you if you make a wrong move (some don't need a sat-nav for that). Other standard features include an address finder, a business search and, for those of you willing to upgrade to XM, NavTraffic, that provides real-time traffic reporting.
The free navi will be only available on 2007 models and we haven't found out the meaning of "specially-equipped" yet, but we'll call our local dealer today.

Interesting promotion. I think it'll be quite successful, because I bleieve a significant number of people who "go nav" never go back. So that will up the transaction prices of future Cadillacs, as well as pick off a few buyers on the fence.
It's also a nice way to move CTS's off the lot at higher prices in time for the January appearance of the 2008 CTS--which is sure to slow sales of the current model.
Well, aside from the catch ("purchased or leased") I see few Autobloggers have anything substantial to contribute once again.
This blog has become a hangout for social status seekers and NOT automotive enthusiasts.
HINT: Automotive enthusiasm is not about trying to find others like you so that you can look down on people who drive another brand of car--it's about an appreciation for the direction of the auto industry as a whole, as well as the technology and advancement that it brings to the art of driving.
So sad you can't hardly find any of those kinds of people here. Posers.

I never bash imports. I bash people who call themselves "import lovers" but do it only for "status" reasons.
There is nothing wrong with imports. There is SOMETHING wrong with people who feel the need to make snarky comments (above) after every post about a domestic (or import for that matter).
Do I need to go dredge up the myriads of collents about "rednecks" from the past? No. All I have to do is look at comment #5 above ("bluehairs").

I have yet to see a thought-provoking post from Jamie. They're all geared towards arguing with someone or putting someone down. If you don't like the discourse, get out.
Don't even get started on illiteracy (which by the way, your choice of words makes no sense since everyone on here can obviously read; if you are trying to insult people's grammar, you've failed once again). You're no Shakespeare yourself. One word: Pretentious.
As for this article, I think it's an excellent idea. It would be wonderful if other car companies followed suit. While navigation has gotten far more mainstream than a few years ago, there's still definitely a rift between expensive and budget cars sporting the feature. While Cadillac is hardly budget, at least having it standard pushes things in the right direction.
Hint: Nobody wants YOUR snarky comments.

I have had to put down quite a lot of people here before , as it has become pretty thick here with the very people you seem not to mind.
Anyone who comes in here for automotive news (as opposed to approval) would be highly annoyed.

The articles are for automotive news. The comments are for discussion. If this is what people choose to discuss, so be it. I don't know where you see people trying to gain approval. Where are your "useful automotive news comments?"

About five years ago, GM stated Nav systems were not neccessary being they offered OnStar on their vehicles. Hmmm... now they finally offer navs- of course, late to the party. I guess they thought we would believe such BS. I demand another apology from GM for talking to us like we are ignorant Americans.

You all should know why they are doing this, so they can ride of all their 06 models, and so they don't have to give the people the new warrenty from GM, the 100,000 mile powertrain.

jsmiles, the article says it's only on 2007 models. None of this is to clearance 2006 models. As Jamie pointed out, it's likely to sell 2007 models before the 2008 models debut in early 2007.

I think it means the nav system is free only on vehicles that have a nav system, ha ha. Seriously, I just used the build-your-Cadillac feature on Cadillac's Web site and I checked with Edmunds.com to verify what I found: The 2007 STS V6 with the Standard (i.e., base) package cannot be had with the nav system. So I suppose the addition of the words 'specially equipped' was to avoid a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of everyone who purchases or leases a 2007 Caddy that left the factory without a nav system.

The turn by turn with OnStar is on all 2007 models...except for the CTS. The New 2008 CTS will be on the ground in late spring/summer time
