No retro for Lambo

As shapely as it may be, the Miura Concept is not the way of the future for Lamborghini. At least not according to Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann who is quoted saying, "Retro design is not what we are here for. So we won't do the Miura, even as a limited edition." Despite rumors of a limited run of Miuras, a nuovo LM002, and a possible Espada redux, future Lambos will focus on being leaders in their segments rather than homages to the past.
That doesn't mean that entire segments will be avoided because of past entries, however. "The concept of a Lamborghini 2+2 or an SUV is possible, but we wouldn't use the name Espada or LM002," Winkelmann added. "I want Lamborghini on the edge. Our brand values are uncompromising, extreme and Italian. And I want our product to match the brand. Lamborghinis must be lower, wider and more sharply styled than our rivals." The most likely all-new Lamborghini looks to be an SUV that would share a platform with Audi's upcoming Q5 crossover. Of course it will be lower, wider and more sharply styled compared to the Audi. But in the meantime, look for LP640 roadsters and possibly rwd Gallardo and Murci variants showing up in spy shots in the coming months.
Bullish tip, Jay!

GOOD! Steven gets it. Lambo is all about wild and crazy future fantasies, it's not about reliving the past. The concept is gorgeous, but to my eyes it falls short of the original. If you want a Muira just buy the real thing, they're readily available used and they're actually affordable. Why pay through the nose for a modern interpretation when you can have the original for relatively cheap?

Wait a minute.
Lambo's corporate volk won't do a fluidly refreshed - new - version of a car that was an instant classic and after which so many lusted. No, a new Miura just would not fit the company's "more sharply styled" brand values.
But they will do a VW-based SUV - with low monthly payments and 0% financing! Com'on down!

What's stopping some well-heeled Lambo lover from pulling a Glickenhaus and commissioning a Miura built on the Murci platform, like he did with the P4/5?

A Miura SHOULD be the future.
A Hummerized Audi should not.

Lambo already had an SUV in the 1980's. It was called the LM001 or a Cheetah or something and they only produced about 300 of them, most of them ending up in the middle east with rich oil sheiks. It had a Countach 5-litre engine.

Lambo should build its SUV. Make it as crazy as the LM002 was for its time. Porsche should build its 4 door sedan. Make it as fast as the 911 Turbo. Aston Martin should build the Rapide. Make it as sexy as the Vantage. The core values of these automakers are not restricted to 2 door coupes. Just make sure that they embody everything that the brand is about, and they won't go wrong.

Wait, wait, wait, wait...
Lambo won't build the only beautiful car its had in three decades? It's going to make an SUV? Clearly stupidity prevails in the Lambo/VW/Audi ranks.
I agree the Miura wasn't original, but neither are the Gallardo or Murcielago. Both are just flat slabs of plastic slapped together with AWD. Lamborghini needs creativity and making a restyled Touareg isn't it.

I am all for a Lambo SUV just as long as it has one of their V-12s in it (LM001). I know it wont happen though.
Also, I am all for building a new Miura but I think Lambo is smart for not going retro...its either go retro or butcher a classic name with a current sharp edge designed car.

On one hand, I am glad Lamborghini is not going to dig in its past to make something for its present. There is always the risk of devaluing a precious name. On the other hand, there hasn't been a Lambi since the Miura that has struck me as beautiful. I think Lamborghini could have done something with a new Miura. After all, Ford did wonders with the GT.
From what was written about the Miura before its unveiling, Lambi management viewed it as a "weapon" to combat the Ferrari Enzo. Would that have meant a car with a sticker price of over $400,000? How much will dealers add on top of that? I could see it selling at auctions for $700,000. Remember the selling craze for the GT and Shelby at Barrett-Jackson--the bastion of rich stupidity?

IMO the muira shape and style has always looked futuristic, there's nothing retro-looking about this new one aside from the fact that it looks like the old muira.
END THE SUV MADNESS!

This is complete TWADDLE
Lamborghini is smart not to go with this Retro nonsense, I cannot understand the constant Go backwards Philosophy that i see from you people, ALL Designs from america is RETRO/RETRO/RETRO. Get over yourselves, I understand Retro is used as a cover when you are Totally Out Of Ideas for a Design or Theme for a New Vehicle hence the Flood of Retro Inspired Designs from Detroit.
However this is Not Detroit, It is Bologna & Frankfurt at its best and THEY DO NOT LOOK BACK so if you want Retro go buy a CAMARO or something from FORD.
SUV wise, there is nothing wrong with producing an SUV so long as the Character of the Vehicle s in keeping with the Lamborghini Philosophy. the Cayenne Turbo S is a testament to how Brilliant an SUV can be so i am sure Lambo will be able to do well. (Hope they do not dilute it with V6 models)

Is the Beetle a £100k+ Supercar ?
Regular Vehicles for Pooting about the town is one thing but for Supercars ??
(You Do Realise the Miura is a Supercar ?)
With the amount of Cutting Edge Technology that go into these Vehicle Designs & Production, don't you think being Hindered by Outdated Retro Design Themes just to Please a couple of Older Buyers is Stupid ? Once they buy a few the rest will not be bought by the Younger Generation simply because the Car would be Clearly Seen as a Compromise.
Do you think that the Wind Testing ability back when the original Miura was designed is anything as good as they are today ?
So why the HELL design a Supercar that Compromises Aerodynamics One Bit just so a couple of people would have a Love with the 60s Miura can have something that looks similar ??
You Want A Miura, You Get The Real Thing.
