Paris Motor Show: VW Iroc Concept

We did not get a chance to see the VW Iroc in person when it debuted in Berlin last month. So what a joy to have Eric Bryant snag these live shots of the 'reinterpretation' of the Scirocco theme. Enjoy more photos after the jump, and VW is hinting strongly that this vehicle may find its way into production. We certainly hope so and are looking forward to one day testing the car's combination of VW's TSI (Twincharger) and DSG technology.

I'm always amazed when a concept, like this one, takes SUCH a departure from the existing vehicles. Is VW suggesting what they offer now has NO connection to how their future cars will look? Is nothing in the design of their current cars worth taking forward?

I expect that this car will be priced around the EOS...or say 25k as a base price (maybe a few more if 4motion is standard).
I would hope that it has 4motion with the 2.0T (possibly the 260+ retuned s3 version). Maybe a 3.6 as a top end model since the R36 may never be made... and the 3.2 needs to be phased out.
I'm excited for it...I know the inside won't stay the same...too radical, but the outside is hot =D
I agree that this car has a strang place in the VW lineup...but end the past they've had Corrados and Siroccos as higher-than-GTI models. The GTI has always been a FWD hot hatch...Let's hope this is a sports car.

This car simply "rocs"! It has all the right bits you'd want in a hatchback(if that's what it is).
Love the headlight's, although it could've been slightly bigger in proportion with the massive grilles. The wheels and interior are perfect.
This would be a perfect VW tuner car.

why not? 9:41PM (9/28/2006)
atleast people in the back will not hit their heads against the glass everytime this thing will go over bumps, unlike any coupes that I know.
but this is not a coupe anyway, maybe something between coupe and a hatch?
aka crossover lol

it looks like a cross between an Amazonian frog and the first XBox. Strangely attractive and intriguing, but I would never buy this.

It's nice, but i agree with #10. Then again this is a concept, and things change. Maybe this radical new grille will change to one more like their current lineup. Or maybe their current lineup will evolve in this direction. Or maybe the scirocco is meant to be a distinct looking car...we'll have to see.

I am so over VW concept vehicles, they never seem to make it to the lot. It is like porno of concept vehicles, fun to look at, but will never ever make it into your garage.

This is one hell of a rear mid-engine car. Very nice. If they can sell it for under 20K I will buy it.
Its been a while since somebody made an afordable midn-engine car since MR2.

Very cool design. The one thing that bothers me is that VW logo on it. VW has established such a strong visual brand and this IROC doesn't seem to fit. Perhaps when (if) it hit the roads that things will work out better.
I'd really like to see one of these in person as the proportional imagery is difficult to gauge from these pictures.
