It's not really racing because when the wheels are spinning, there's no traction and the lap times are killed. At best, it seems like a version of the old parking lot burnout contests from when I was a kid. A show for the audience at it's very best, a waste of good rubber at its worst. Just my .02 worth. Bit yawn.

Jeff

Comments on

Have a blow-off valve!

-m

MattS

Comments on

drifting = ploy by tire makers to sell more tires!

physics

Comments on

Drifting is no different now a days then way back when, some people didn't understand drag racing or Nascar. Everyone has a sport, even if it's not timed or based on laps. Drifting is not one of my favorite sports to watch, but I sure do have respect for guys that have THAT much control over a car. It does take talent to do that.

I got a kick out of that video... 3 wheels smoking!! Anyone who calls any pro drifter a bad driver needs to prove that they have the delicate wheel and throttle control to keep a car in a balanced drift. I for one couldn’t even approach that, and neither could most people here. If you want racing with a drifting edge to it, and not this type of crazy power sliding, look up Japanese-born "touge" racing. Drifting isn't supposed to be the fastest way around a corner, but the most fun.

chua

Comments on

Sport: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
Yes, drifting is a sport. Besides, the Audi sounded interesting for a turbo four (would have been more interesting if it was a turbo five or a coupe) but the driver's skill wasn't worth a darn. I'm NOT a drift fan but from what I understand, its carefully controlled slipping, not just flying all over the place and constantly bouncing off the rev-limiter.

SCCA-XR

Comments on

No sport is so funny as drifting

show cars

Comments on

Judging is pretty involved.
