Driving off the fairway: VW CrossGolf
Volkswagen's popular Golf keeps inching closer and closer to the Tiguan SUV it will spawn. VW has taken the wraps off its latest soft-roader: the Golf Plus Cross (a.k.a. CrossGolf), which adds to the embiggened Golf Plus with raised suspension and revised trim, similar to the treatment received by the smaller CrossPolo. It's aimed at doing to the Golf Plus what Audi's Allroad did for its A6.
The Golf Plus Cross is treated to SUV-style bumpers front and back, roof rails, minimal side body-cladding and wheel arches surrounding the new 17" alloys. No word yet on whether the little cute-ute will get all wheel drive when it goes on sale in Europe this coming January. Four engines will be available. The gasoline engines are the 102 HP 1.6L and the 140 HP 1.4 TSI. Naturally, there are diesels as well: a 105 HP 1.9 TDI and a 2.0 TDI with 140 horsepower.

If VW brings it over to North America , and it's quality is good, sign me up and I won't buy the Element I just ordered.

as much as i appreciate the usage of "embiggen," i do not think it means what you think it means.

I think it'd kinda cute. Give it allwheel drive and a diesel and bring it on over to the US. Maybe in a few years we may even have some real automotive diversity in this country. A new automotive golden age like the 20's, 30's, and 40's!

Not a bad looking car, but I hope they do not overprice it. It looks very short, so its not a CRV/Rav competitor, maybe more of a Toyota Matrix class vehicle.

The back looks great, the front needs a little work but the interior looks high quality VW and is a winner.

I think Noah's use of "embiggen" is perfectly cromulent ;P

looking for a small crossover at the moment. Having recently moved from Europe to Canada, I'm sure these and the mini mpv's (think Mazda 5 size North Americans) like the Touran, Scenic, Picasso and C-Max would sell really well here.
If it was coming here, I'd buy it

Nice. Since the plastic covers underneath my (noncross)golf are currenly held on with a bungie (guess it's not a soft-roader after all) I could really use this car. I'll take mine in a deisel.

Doesn't work for me. First thing I thought of was the Civic 4WD wagon. Same dumpy looks, just 15 years newer.

Way ugly. I can't really agree with any of the comparisons drawn so far. To me, it looks like a stubby small MPV from Japan, circa a decade or two ago.

Kinda reminds me of the Renault Scenic, or any of the other European "mono-espaces" that they have over there.

Lets just hope this car doesn't have any connection with it's smaller brother, the VW CrossFox, sold here in Brazil, this is such a crap car.
Anyway, i prefer the Golf at it's normal version.

Will this come to the US with a clean diesel option? Please say it is so!

@Hamud, the VW Fox is crap? Would you elaborate... I'm curious.

They should have made the wheel arches and wheels a little larger. It's the little hint that tells you it's not an SUV, but a lifted mini.

Do you people never read good. It is Not an SUV, but an CUV = Crossover Utility Vehicle. This is a crossing between a car and a SUV.
I like and when they bring it if they do I will buy mine. It may look like the Suzuki SX4 but there are BIG diferences when look both of them from the front. My opninion.
