Mosler Deutschland, the German importer for Mosler Automotive, has created a special road-going GTR edition of the MT900S. The GTR will be powered by a 600 bhp 7.0-liter GM LS7 engine from the latest Corvette Z06. The MT900GTR includes a carbon front splitter, carbon fiber rear spoiler, and further underbody carbon fiber aerodynamic goodies to suck the car to the tarmac. It will be outfitted with a KW Automotive suspension, Recaro seats, Movit ceraminc brakes (with racing ABS), WORK wheels, and a custom Alpine stereo with, what else, carbon fiber speakers. What all this boils down to is a racing machine customized for the street. It even has air conditioning, and is built to both European and U.S. safety standards.

I would like to see an all wheel drive car powered by the ls7. 0-60 in 3 seconds flat anyone?

Ditto. With 600HP, plus all the torque from the LS7, RWD is a waste.
AWD FTW!

Reminds me of the XJ220 and McLaren F1 mixed.

I am not interested...

Why the hell would you want AWD on your road race car? RWD is a waste? You guys are ridiculous. Not EVERYONE drag races. No one cares about 0-60 times. Its a ROAD RACE CAR.
cowboy bob @ Sep 25th 2006 3:11AM
RWD can, and does, give very good traction for tremendous horsepower if properly set up. AWD can be, and already is, a choice for road race driving performance. I have seen many RWD cars pull the front wheels off the ground at the start of acceleration, and also have seen AWD road racers run thru corners at great speed. It depends on the rules for an accepted competition, or in other cases, the personal preference of the owner/driver as to what they want, or enjoy. There is no answer as to what platform is the "best" as the "answer" is an opinion.

There's already a second LS7 Mosler, check this forum near the bottom of the thread:

"I have seen many RWD cars pull the front wheels off the ground at the start of acceleration"
So? Do you know why it's off the ground? Its because there's no weight over the tire. Who cares if its touching the ground or not, all power is being outputted through the rears, and the car's obviously pitched in a corner where all load is off the tire. Lift a wheel in a standard AWD car, and you lose all ability to put down power immediately. You'll need a whole host of costly differentials to figure out how to put power down.
"and also have seen AWD road racers run thru corners at great speed"
What a vague statement. Ever watch USTCC or SpeedWC? The field is often lead by FWD cars. That doesn't mean its optimal by any means.
G. Snyder @ Sep 25th 2006 8:25AM
yeah...the power is "outputted".
Anyway, there is a reason that most race cars are RWD (F1 anybody?). Do you all think that you have figured out something special - as if using AWD was some type of magic formula that the rest of the engineering world overlooked? Ha ha...that is funny.
AWD has a place for sure, but it has its own set of problems.
PJa @ Sep 25th 2006 9:12AM
G. Synder. AWD has been banned from most racing series inlcuding F1 due to the advantages. Please read up on the history.
G. Snyder @ Sep 25th 2006 10:24AM
PJa - I wonder why all sports cars are not AWD then? It is curious as to why Audi cannot seem to best BMW ever in the handling department.
MikeW @ Sep 25th 2006 11:13AM
Audi's are front wheel drive cars, look at their history. Piech thought, hey why not give it more traction, not a bad thing [graft a center differential to the rear of the manual transmission and also add the coaxial shaft for the front differential, BAM quattro] Now the weight distribution is better than the 63/37 of a pure front drive car, 60/40.
If Audi wanted to develop a pure four wheel drive car, they would have shot for 55/45 [and got it], by putting the engine over the front axle. Honda got a 60/40 front drive car by putting the engine over the axle, see the 1991 Acura legend

If any racing series uses any significant downforce, four wheel drive would not be an advantage.
