Vanishing Point: The Bugatti Veyron at full tilt
If this doesn't put a grin on your face, you're probably dead. Witness the impossibly fast Bugatti Veyron make the jump to hyperspace as filmed from a 350Z chase car.
Well, now we all know what fast -- real, on-the-street fast -- looks like. The thing's like a bike, for crying out loud. Utterly ridiculous ... in the best possible way.

What's happening with those taillights? They're confusing, but cool.

Wow. Would love to see this again with some additional cameras on the side of the road. I'm guessing the rear lights are NOT supposed to be blinking like that?

The rear taillights are LED's, that's why they appear to be flashing.

Don't you have to enter a code or a special key to "turn on" the get the engine set up that allows for the full 1001 hp? Could the tail lights be a function of that?

Typical VW electrical issues. I guess money can't buy quality.

The rear lights are LED's they cycle on and off very quickly.

Could the flashing lights be something going on between the LED lights and the videocamera?
I've seen it happening on other videos as well.

I'd love to see another pass where both cars are cruising at 60mph or so, and the Veyron punches it from there while the z stays put... that'd be a little easier than trying to judge the relative acceleration of the Veyron like in the above clip.
Still, though, that was ridiculous to watch it take off from a stop.

Nothing personal James, but how many people can be so clueles on this blog??
The flashing taillights are nothing new--and they certainly get your attention.
They are not to "confuse" you, neither are they a function of "LCD"s or anything.
Have you all never seen Formula 1??
[Gee. That's what you get when you have a blog full of non-enthusiasts (who go wild over Camrys; do spare us--Alfa Romeo is much more interesting).]

Well, when I'm out driving in my Z, I guess I won't try to race any Veyrons...

Jamie:
Watch Formula 1? Yawn...I'll take a WRC race anyday over a 200mph traffic backup. Seriously.
Most of us on this blog can't afford expensive cars, so we go crazy over the things we can afford. Nothing wrong with getting a little excited over the newest midsize offering by Toyota or Ford. It's better than religiously fawning over the things we will likely NEVER be able to own.
PS We don't have Alfa here in the States.

The Z has some get-up-and-go. Granted, I've been in some faster cars than a Z, but it's not shabby for what it is. The Veyron left it in the dust. I can't imagine how accelerating like that must feel. Orgasmic, I'm sure.

The flashing lights are probably part of the same new family of brake lights that are in the new mercedes vehicles. By blinking like that, Mercedes claims, it improves the reaction time of any drivers following and in the case of panic stops, can help prevent accidents.
Alfas suck.
And although the Camry may not be a thousand (987) HP monster, it is one of the best cars in the world regardless, in terms of safety, reliability, practicality (which is what alot more people really care about when buying cars). That is of course, unless you are elistist swine -- in which case have a ball in your Alfa.

I believe there is a special switch to turn it to max speed mode. If recall from top gear it was down near the floor

flashing of the lights is probably caused by the shutter of the camera combined with the led lights (which I guess must be blinking at 60Hz or something like that)

the LED lights blinking that it just an illusuion, it's because LEDs actually spend more time off than they do on, it's just they're flashing so fast they look to be on all the time to the human eye, but the shutter speed on that camera was fast enough to catch then in the off state, so no fancy effects, if you were actually sat in the car behind they would look like regular brake lights
