A bunch of teaser photos of the new smart fortwo surfaced Thursday on smartforum.nl. If you speak Dutch, then follow the link for more info and comments, otherwise, just enjoy the photos after the jump.
The interior photos show a very well-equipped minicar, while the exterior photos suggest that the fortwo may be available with a radical new built-in Coca Cola dispenser...

I think they are trying to make it more than it is. Keep it simple, like Aygo, or Yaris. Keep in mind I am 47, so they are probably not targeting me.

Looks nice from exterior, but I don't like it's interior because of that orange. Maybe another colour.

I saw about 15 used 2005's on a lot in Colorado this past weekend for $28K each. What are the new ones gonna cost?
I do like them. Not sure i'd drive them on a road that exceeds 40 mph though. You'd be dead real fast if you got hit by someone in an SUV.

I like the interior, even the orange but some variety will be nice.
As far as price in Europe they sell for 15k-20k Euros and that's and out the door price with all the taxes. In the US I expect the MSRP will be in the range of $15-$20K.
As far as crash worthiness. On Youtube there are at least 2 clips of crash tests of a FourTwo. One an offset head on crash into and S-Class with an impact speed of approx 80MPH and the other hitting a jersey barrier at about 50. In both cases the passenger compartment was fully intact to the point where the doors could be opened and closed normally.

Pretty slick.

PLEASE, Smart, keep the full range of options available for the US models.
We need more full-featured small car choices here, the Mini is getting lonely.
Mikel @ Sep 21st 2006 3:58PM
Yeah and 41 horsepower will get you real far. We have tons of these in Montreal and they are a total joke. If you can get past the pranksters tipping them over I guess they make a good....... brunt of everyone's jokes!

"I saw about 15 used 2005's on a lot in Colorado this past weekend for $28K each. What are the new ones gonna cost?"
If you saw them in Colorado, they are most likely from Zap (zapworld.com) and are older models that have been "Americanized" for emissions, etc. - these are NOT the same thing Mercedes is going to deliver to the USA. Those Zap cars have been heavily modified (not for performance!) and are required to be sold as USED. The prices of the model shown here should be a new car price for an American market car - I expect about $15,000 give or take $5k depending on model, etc.

Yes .. something like a foot longer; all due to crash protection. Transmission is far better then the last round. It was supposed to be more conservative in appointments (less funky). Engine is greatly simplied.
That is all I remember.

Now that's a budget car that actually looks respectable. I'm sold.
Green Lotus Elise @ Sep 24th 2006 12:51PM
This could easily be my wife's next car. I used to show her photos of the older Smarts years ago and she liked them quite a bit then, I can only imagine how much she'll like them once she sees one in person.
I drive a Lotus Elise and while it is pretty small it still amazes me just how many "Is that the new Smart car thing" comments I get. I mean come on, do the photos above resemble this in any way?!?

I saw the Americanized versions in Bozeman, MT. These had the turbos. Granted I would not want to meet a ddet head on, but as a four-wheeled motorcyclce with a cab and heater, I would buy one for around town. But not for the asking price of $27K. The 60 mpg sounds awfully tempting

Does anyone know if one of the Canadian cars can be bought in Canada and then licensed in the US? I would consider going to Canada for one if I knew it could be licensed and insured here in the US.
