Craig's List find of the day: McLaren F1 GTR
You can always find a little bit of everything on Craiglist. It's like the cool, hip, grassroots version of eBay. Jobs, cars, bands seeking musicians, that 1980s-style furniture that hasn't come back into vogue (yet) -- it's all there. Even a McLaren F1 GTR.
The car, which was a BMW factory-sponsored Motorsport race car driven by Nelson Piquet and placed 11th at LeMans, has been converted into street-legal spec for your driving pleasure. The 1996 racer is a mid-engine V12, and while we're not sure what the exact specs of this particular custom-built F1 are, its history would imply that it's hella-fast.
Thanks to Steve for the tip.

Erin, please never say "hella" again, and never ever say "hecka". Since this is on CL they seller probably wants sexual favors instead of cash. If the seller is female I might be in the market.

I believe the correct name is Craigslist (with a S) instead of Craiglist!

sexual favors for a Maclaren f1 gtr car is just fine by me. this is hands down the quintessential super exotic and the car of my dreams since i was an early teen. i don't know what this guy did to it to muck it up but it doesn't matter. although, to be honest, i don't believe it for a second. why sell it on craigslist and not ebay, or better yet, why sell it at all?

Come to Butthead.
I'm thinking about George Carlin's Rules of the Road. I'd do whatever I needed to do to get that car, and I'd be OK with that.

Why Craigslist and not eBay? Because the ad is a scam. Click on the link to see the McLaren pictures and it'll take you to a website that supposedly sells auction cars at half price. It'll show you an inventory of cars that do not exist. In fact, they haven't changed that "inventory" page for years. The only thing they sell you is some worthless information on how to buy cars at auctions.

why does this site always have to throw asinine comments in like "It's like the cool, hip, grassroots version of eBay."???
I stopped reading the article there. We all know what craigslist is. Except maybe the author, who doesn't realize craigslist was around long before ebay.

Scam. McLaren's all go through the company's database before being re-sold, they would know if it's legit or not.

The car pictured is GTR #16R and it has not looked like that for more than a year. The ad is a hoax/scam as someone else mentioned. I am also quite sure the car's current owner is not selling.
Here's a current photo of this car taken August 27th, 2006 by Tim Dunlop at Donington Park circuit in the UK.

This particular GTR was also recently featured on an episode of 5th Gear in the UK where Tiff Needel compared it with the Ferrari Enzo.
