Spy Shots: 2009 Porsche Panamera
Testing of the Porsche Panamera at -- where else? -- the Nurburgring has begun in earnest, and clearly audible over the big Porsche's exhaust note is the frenzied clicking of photographers' shutters. With the car's debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show still over two years away, it's difficult to know what, if anything, to make of the test car's shape, although the overall proportions of the car are probably close to reality.
To make the four seats and a luggage compartment practical, the Panamera's engine moves to the front. According to The Car Connection, raising the Panamera's hood will reveal engines ranging from the Volkswagen 3.5-liter six (300 hp) all the way to a twin-turbo direct-injection Porsche V8 (560 hp). I liked the earlier drawings that I've seen, prior to the project being killed the first time. But the 911 shape doesn't seem to naturally lend itself well to a four-door sedan model.
In any case, the test mule here looks like a high-school kid's pimped out Infiniti M35 with strange body kits tacked on, so I doubt that it's very representative of the final design.

Possibly one of the ugliest cars ever built by a manufacturer with a reputation to lose.

eehh..I'd take a Aston Martin Rapide over this. A Porsche, indeed, was never made to be this. I mean look at how the Cayenne turned out, blah.

Porsche, please start a sedan/suv division separate under the porsche banner. you can break away from sillly putty shapes that you try to form from the classic 911 form. use your design team in a fresh direction with porsche technology and creativity. Remember the G35,geez, where did that come from? just rumors...

It's looking pretty good for a 4 door, has porsche written all over it ! and if you are gonna have a 4 door make sure you can fit 2 fat american's in the rear seats and 2 sets of golf clubs in the hatch or dont even bother ! Basically it could have looked alot worse, so im fine with the progess so far .

How do they put so many engines under that same hood?

I'm sure it'll look better when it comes out. That doesn't mean it'll look good, though.

I just don't see how this car is going to look good, I guess if you are a fan of their SUV then it should be OK.

I think when it's all finished, the front end of the car will essentially look like the Carrera GT, which is very nicely done.

Porsche is always great but all of the models are very similar. They need to come up with some totally different cars.
