Spy Shots: Chevy HHR SS
The production version of the high performance Chevy HHR SS is nearing completion, as these spy shots host over at Winding Road indicate. The black-and-white checkered tape job is but a formality and will soon enough be removed to reveal a deep front air dam that shields the intercooler required for the 2.0-liter turbo Ecotec underhood. While there's no confirmation this 260-hp powerplant will be the mill of choice for the HHR SS, it's an extremely likely candidate. The only other prominent body mods being made to the HHR for SS duty are running boards that create a sill between the front and rear fenders and much larger exhaust tip out back. These particular spy shots were snapped in Germany at the Nürburgring, where the HHR SS mule was about to take a few laps.[Source: Winding Road]

This is the quirky car I've been waiting for...the Mazdaspeed3 is sweet, but the HHR SS begs for customization.

So, the PT GT gets competition.
Good to see they're working on the handling, as it's an HHR weakness. Hopefully conventional power steering is part of the package.
I've learned that some HHR owners in Canada (perhaps the U.S. as well) are getting free running boards as these prevent otherwise excessive stone chipping of the rear fenders. Perhaps they're going to become standard on all HHRs?

That has to be the best disguise tape job in history, My eyes hurt for just glancing at it. Imagine what it would do to a laser radar gun......

It's just another spoofed up PT Cruiser. Boring looking car if you ask me.

Chevy should have put this 2.0 turbo in the Cobolt and entered rallies.

About ten minutes into my test-drive of last year's HHR, I started daydreaming about how much better it could be with the Cobalt SS's powertrain, steering, seats, and suspension setup. I'm pleasantly surprised that GM thought so, too.
There is such a thing as *smart* parts-bin sharing, and this is it.
I'm not convinced that this car needs the 260 hp Ecotec, though, as suggested above. The 205 hp supercharged 2.0-liter is plenty fast in the Cobalt, doesn't create too much torque steer, and gets decent mileage to boot. How often are you going to use sub-6-second 0-60 capabilities in a street-biased car?

Number 11 is bang on the money. This thing screams Chevy from every angle, and yet they're covering up the Chevy Bowtie.... why even bother?

I seen this car the other day with less camo on it than the one in the picture. The damm thing sounds like a fast and furious rice burner. Exhaust was way to loud. The kind of exhaust that you hear before you even see the car moving. I seen it at Haggerty Rd. and 12 mile by the Bosch and Nissan buildings.

Ugh. This thing is just like the PT Cruiser and Magnum. The only people who like it are older men. It's not a chick magnet, it's a "Chuck magnet."
