Think you could out-run a police cruiser? Think again. At least not in London.
London Metropolitan Police have apparently "acquired" two Renault F1 cars as pursuit vehicles. A police department spokesman enumerated a number of potential problems, including the noise, fuelling up, the overwhelming performance, no space for equipment, and the fact that none of their donut-engorged officers could possibly fit in the cockpit, let alone drive it.

I've never really understood some of the things that police forces do for attention. Personally, I would be more impressed if they could actually sove some crimes.

Wow. Can you say waste of tax dollars? This brings to mind that bumper sticker that says "Don't steal, the government hates competition."

As if the London Police would be allowed to run around in a car in the colors of tobacco maker Mild Seven.

Not a fake, it looks funny because it is sitting on a dolly. Just a publicity stunt by the Met Police, something they can show off at car shows like the Lambo they used before.

Either the London police are on crack or this is a bad joke. Have any of them ever actually watched F1? Do they know that you don't just turn a key to start the car, and that it wouldn't be able to put around London waiting for a bust?
squish @ Sep 13th 2006 4:54AM

London must have accidentally been given a Homeland Security grant.
Someone on the other blog made a pretty funny joke about how this still won't be able to catch Ferraris.
