Autoblog Night Watch: 2006 Gumball 3000
[DISCLAIMER: Lewd sexual material, foul language and unsafe/illegal antics are all in day's work for the Gumballers. NSFW, depending on where you make your dough.]
The most recent Gumball rally that tore across several continents, including the good 'ol U.S. of A, was captured and edited for the European show Extreme TV. Although we've been awfully fed up with the publicity these events seem to attract (let alone the use the word "extreme" in marketing), the show itself is relatively well produced and may be worth the 23+ minutes of your life. If you're into this sort of thing.
One feature of the show that struck us as familiar is the premise that two racers are followed throughout, with the producers assigning a series of challenges over the course of the rally. That sounds awfully like the show that's set to debut in 2007 on Spike TV. Great, just what we need, another imported-U.K. reality show.

This is great entertainment! It's not going to win any awards but we do get an insight into a life many of us will never come close to leading.
Besides, where else do you get to see a million dollar street car eat it.

what sort of car was it that crashed in the end? looked like a bentley fly spur, which def. isn't a million.

That shit is outrageous. I wish they would air it uncut and uncensored. This is true entertainment. I can't wait to see more!!!

The crashed vehicle was a RR Phantom! I was at the Vegas stop of the event and it was freaking awesome!

Similar to what we think when we get yet another crappy American sitcom ;-)

this is a joke, the gumball 300 is a poor excuse for celebrities to behave like jackasses, this isnt real racing, its yelling "look at me i'm rich" at the top of their lungs.

Except that not everyone is rich, and they're a lot of reasonably priced cars on the Rally. Alas, they haven't been featured in the show since 2004. Also, out of all the entrants, only about 10% treat it like a professional endurance event. The Gumball is merely what the entrants put into it, and many treat it like a high-end road trip, but not all...
Best,
Alex
