Volkswagen Beetle Barbie debuts in Mexico

We've brought you the Mitsubishi's Hello Kitty i, and now, in our never-ending quest to provide complete coverage of all children's-toy-themed automobiles, we present the Mexican-market Volkswagen Beetle Barbie. No battery-operated kiddie toy, mind you, the Beetle Barbie is a bona-fide VW New Beetle, finished in a retina-searing hot pink paint job decorated with strategically-placed Barbie logos. Detail fanatics take note: even the lug nuts are pink.
Inside, the theme continues, with pink accents and inserts finding their way onto the leather seats, door trim, floormats, and steering wheel. Only 13 will be built, and they'll be sold through specially-selected VW dealers. The price? 262,500 Mexican pesos ($24,368 USD / 19.012 €). No word on whether or not Ken will be seen riding shotgun.

"...only 13 will be built."
aside from Barbie fanatics and folks who buy just about anything they think will have future collector status (Re: investment potential), WHO would want this? I bet they will JUST be able to find 13 takers for this....car? And come on...a Barbie Beetle SEDAN!!!! Barbie wouldn't drive a SEDAN anything, she always went for the convertible/roadster.

The New Beetle was cute 8.5 years ago when introduced.
It's now old, boring, and really a silly-looking turd that's appropiate only for teenaged girls.
I know only one person who owns one of those things and she's a long time VW owner who thinks the Beetle has been a troublesome POS.
This is now one of the most unimpressive new cars. At least the PT Cruiser, another too-cute thing, has a good service record and is a practical vehicle.
VWs are great cars to ignore.

The only good Beetle is the 500 hp twin turbo HPA Beetle tested in Motor Trend. Other than that, I wish the Beetle would go away...

2 of them will go into collections as rare vehicles and the other 11 will be driven by teenage girls on their cell phones... until they crash them

Any man who drives one of those Barbie VW's will lose 10% of his body's testosterone for each mile driven. Drive ten miles, and he'll never use a urinal again.

Does it come with pink-tinted fog-lights?
But seriously, the Mitsubishi Hello Kitty car was better. *cough*

The number of men who are unsecure about their masculinity amazes me! They can't wear a pink shirt or even use a pink tee! And, heaven forbid, drive a pink car! Personally, I like pink and although I would not want a pink beetle, my wife would! I would prefer a pink 1957 Thunderbird and would happily drive it! Lighten up, men! If you don't want one, don't buy one.

13 only eh? Random number- you'd have to be a serious Barbie fan to get one of these

Anyone else remember the Mary Kaye Cadillacs? At least that was a pastel pink.
But don't underestimate the purchasing power of the Barbie collector, the middle aged woman with hundreds of the plastic anthromorphically-incorrect dolls still in their original never-opened box. They'd have these forklifted into their garages just to keep the miles off them, if only they could get them into the country. They could sell thirteen of them easily, but with only thirteen, it will likely set off a buying frenzy unseen since the Christmas of the Cabbage Patch Dolls.
If VW would do it here, it would make the newspapers everywhere, a p.r. dream.
