As you know, we were unabashedly impressed with the C30 when it debuted as a concept at the 2006 North American International Auto Show and were equally excited to see the production version lost little of the concept's charm. It turns out that Volvo is pretty excited about the C30 too, as the Swedish brand has turned three cars over to a triumvirate of tuners who will produce custom versions for the SEMA Show in November. The companies involved include ipd, HEICO SPORTIV and EVOLVE.

The first tuner is little ipd who will make a very big statement with its C30 concept (shown above) producing 400 horsepower thanks to a belt-driven supercharger. That delicious powerband is augmented with audio courtesy of Alpine and Apple. Handling is jacked up a notch thanks to a fully adjustable coil-over suspension system and the party will come to a stop quickly thanks to a big break package. And just for fun the ipd C30 is painted with a Swedish flag theme. Nice.

The HEICO C30 is aimed at outdoor enthusiasts, which explains the involvement of Burlington, Vermont-based Burton snowboards. HEICO plans to turn the all-wheel drive C30 into a backpack on wheels for the outdoor advernturists, but beyond that all we have to go on in this rendering.

The final tuner is EVOLVE, a company that's worked with Volvo in the past on show cars. The EVOLVE C30 is described as combining "stunning aesthetics" with "staggering performance capabilities." Show and go is always a good thing, but what really tickles our fancy is the question EVOLVE poses: "What would happen if a Formula One car and Volvo C30 were put in a blender? "

I agree on IPD. These guys are in the Volvo trenches every day providing some of the most extensive selection of add ons and what not for Volvos. Surprised that they went with a blower on their version

" This small, three-door coupe targets young urbanites, single or couples, but without children."

Wow. Speak again, oh wise one. This is really some insightful stuff here. Is there somewhere I can hear more of your prophecies? Oooooohh...goody. I see you have a link. Anyone who has something this good to say, must have an awesome webiste for me to hurry up and visit.

edit: Nope. No good website to be found.

I bet very few of the commenters would be capable of properly handling a rear-wheel drive car, what's the fuss all about? Astonishing car, great Premium sound system.. Dynaudio *drool*

when does the C30 go on sale anyways?

A "big break package?" At these prices? Sheesh, that's been standard on Volkswagens for years now.

I love that Volvo is showing an ipd model. I'm a big fan of the 740/940 Turbo wagons, and ipd makes some of the best (and only) performance parts available for those tanks.

epilonious, the "break" comment was meant to make Joe's point, only a bit more delicately. VWs "break," calipers "brake."

These volvos are looking better and better all the time.

IIRC, it will be offered with AWD, if it's not standard.

Looks cool. But as long as it is a front-wheel drive car....FAGETABOUTIT

PJ: If VW brakes are so "large" standard then how come mazda3s have beefier brakes for cheaper?

I mean, I understand Volkswagens HAVE to have mega stopping power when they weigh that much... but why tout that as an advantage instead of a necessity?

I imagine the big brake package as applied by a tuner is much more involved than "4-wheel disc, front wheels ventilated"

"thanks to a big break package. "

      Check your spelling!
