It's a three-bar world over at Ford's design studio, and the latest model to adopt the Fusion-esque grille treatment is the 2008 Ford Five Hundred, which gets a facelift for its unveiling at next year's Chicago Auto Show. We showed you heavily masked spy shots that hinted at the new front end treatment back in April, and Leftlane News put up a new collection of Ford Five Hundred spy shots Friday that give a much clearer view of the restyled front end.
Sales of the current model have been flagging of late (down over 50% last month compared with August 2005), and Ford hopes a fresher styling treatment will help the Five Hundred inherit some of the buzz surrounding the successful Fusion.

So, the Fusion is one of the few successful models Ford sells, and (big surprise) now all Ford cars are adopting the "look" established by the that car.

Who knows, maybe Ford will actually fool some poor sap into thinking the 500 and Focus are more "Fusion-esque" if they look the same.

For me, it now means they have 3 bad looking cars, instead of one.

I, for one, like the Five hundred as it is. However, This new design makes it look much, much better. I have also seen spy shots of the newly facelifted Montego. It makes me actually want one, and I am only 27! I do agree with Noah, I hope this look goes to the F150 like the super chief design. Overall, Ford is doing much better, as well as GM and Chrysler. They are all making auto's I would not mind having. The looks are attention getters and the quality is way up! I really do not see why some of you bash the Fusion and call it ugly. That name has been earned by the " I am still stuck in the 90's monochromatic barely any chrome ugly bubbly"07 Camry. I mean really, what were they thinking? That car looks cheap in any form. And the sad thing is, people buy them and actually look proud. I find it funny as they drive down the road and their cheap hubcaps wobble as if the factory could not even put those on right. And say what you want about the Fusion, but it actually beats the new Camry in terms of value, fit and finish, and style. All in all, I think the new facelifted Five Hundred and Montego will fare much better this time around.

Glad to see Ford engineers keep a lot of duct tape on hand...

fair enough... i wouldn't want a disposable razor blade on the front of my car either...

damn, definitely figured it was either the southeast or michigan.

Igor..... I have seen the new Five Hundred, Montego, and Freestyle at Las Vegas. Your photoshop isnt really very close to what it will actually look like. It will be a great improvement to all three vehicles. They will also receive the 3.5L and loose the CVT.

      YAY FOR THE BARS!

Honestly that's SO much better than what's there now. Gives it a real feel of weight.

They need to stick that on the F150 too.

Maybe because they sucked for a long time and have only recently become competitive again.

It's striking how naive you are about this subject. To suggest that the US would be known for nothing without GM or Ford is simply wrong. The US is a leader in services (esp. financial), tech, agriculture, defense industry, and many other sectors.

The reasoning you use in your post suggests that because Ford is a part of US history that it should be immune from criticism. I honestly hope you're not too stupid to realize what a ridiculous, idealist notion that is.

All the other people were simply writing about the aesthetic appeal of a specific aspect of Ford design. How you manage to turn that into anti-American sentiment is beyond me...

Next time think before you write this kind of crap.

Wow! It's almost as bad looking as the Fusion now. At least they seem to want their cars to be consistanly ugly. The 500 was a nice looking car. I guess they couldn't have that. Ford just doesn't seem to get it. There is more to car design than grills and tail lights. They had to wait two years for this? What were they testing?

Ford is not going to make it.

Definitely an improvement as the car will have some personality of its own brand in it. And the fact that it looks like a Fusion isn't a bad thing. Keep in mind that this is a family car so it doesn't have to be highly stylized to sell.

Well, let's all belly up to the bar!

That's a big improvement over the bland styling of Fords lately. Perhaps there is still hope they can muster enough glitz to shine a few extra dollars from unsuspecting customers.

Ford really needs a make-over and fast. Except for Mustang, there is nothing else to look at. Not even their SUVs or pickups merit serious consideration nowadays.

I am rather fond of the PAG (Volvo, Jaguar, Range Rover and Aston Martin) products though. Too bad Billy is considering dumping their only prospect of a viable future in the automotive business. Mercury and Lincoln certainly won't help Ford out of the mudhole it has sunk into.

Are you in 7th grade??? Your grammar and writing ability are as awful as your logic.
First, pick up an economics textbook sometime; you need it.

Second, you still miss the point that criticizing ONE design aspect of a few cars does NOT amount to bashing an entire brand and a country. GET YOUR G0DDAMN HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS.

The funny thing is that you don't even understand what you're writing. This post is about a new grill on a car. You've interpreted critiques of that grill as hatred of the entire American car industry. Do you see the false assumption you're making here? Of course you don't. Either you're 13 and trying to be cool, or you're a redneck from Alabama with an IQ of 47.

So go ahead and call me a dickhead some more (you do seem to have a rather unhealthy obsession with dicks) and continue to make an ass out of yourself. You're doing a fantastic job making me laugh... Ciao

Absolutely amazing that some can criticize the 3-bar grill. Other manufacturers can put the same snout on all their vehicles and get practically no remarks. Let Ford do it and you're all over them. The Fusion is striking, whether you like it or not.
