UPDATE 1: new pic added of Solstice Jazz

Looks like Autobot member Jazz will be joining Bumblebee in getting a new set of car clothes to wear in the upcoming Transformers film directed by Michael Bay. Several sources are confirming that Jazz, traditionally shown as a Martini Porsche 935 Turbo race car, will instead be played by a silver Pontiac Solstice. This adds to GM's current list of Autobots in its lineup, which includes the Camaro Concept as Bumblebee and a HUMMER as Ratchet.

In other Transformers news, here's how the first teaser trailer should have been done.

That's crap. At least pick a frikkin Corvette. Stupid product placement. Bumblebee as a Camaro is still worse though. Should've at least made it an Aveo or Cobalt. Looks like it's going to be one giant GM advertorial.

That Solstice may have beat the Boxster around the track, but Car and Driver said they'd buy a used Boxer before buying the Solstice.

"wait, i'll catch him, make room while i transform into a Pontiac Solstice, now at your local deal w/no payments and no interest for the first month"

#8, it started as a toy commercial, and you're worried it's turning into a car commercial?

Well, speaking from personal experience with my own Solstice, I totally think it is a fitting car to portray Jazz. It's flashy and definitely gets attention on the road (trust me!). There is a new generation of viewers, so the vehicles needed to be modernized to today's standards and I'm sure that the whole 'sale' tactic will benefit both toy worlds...those for the younger set and for the 'baby boomers' that have come of age since watching the cartoon version. So, whether little toys...or big, either way it's a win-win situation all around. Jazz (even though it's a hard-top) will be my fav! I Love my SOLSTICE!! Of course, I'm also partial to the reincarnation of the Camaro...can't wait to see that on the road!!

Oh well, as if you expected the new transformers movie to be as good as the cartoon we all grew up watching. It would have been nice to keep the original vehicles, but given that movies today are less entertainment and more product placement adverts, its not surprising we'll see a glut of GM vehicles in the movie.

I still look forward to watching it though, no matter what cars they use.

What's Optimus Prime going to be again? A Toyota Camry?

Despite the fact that the cartoon was a 30 minute ad for the toys, the show was still a pillar in many of our (unwittingly unaware) commercialized childhoods. To have that memory futher tarnished by having a blatant GM vs. Ford corporate ad campaign is worse, especially since we're commercially aware consumers now.

Ok seriously Jazz is a %$#%@#$ SOLSTICE?? Of all cars, they pick the car that shares the same platform as one of the top "gay friendly" cars? Nothing against gays, but Jazz is not a gay robot.

      That we know of.

But then again, his quote on the box packaging of the toy was "Do it with style or don't bother doing it." Maybe he was a little....TOO stylish

Yes! I share everyone's indignation at the crass commercialization of the Transformers. Corporate America is spoiling the purity of the story with its ridiculous product placement!

The producers should have stayed true to the form of the original cartoon... and made the movie a thinly-disguised feature length advertisement for Hasbro toys.

My money was on the Porsche Cayman, but I lose.

Some of the Decepticons are Fords. And not Focuses and Excursions, like GM. Saleen Mustang. Right on. IF Optimus Prime is not a cab-over trcuk this movie is gonna suck. Michael Bay, by the way did "Pearl Harbour", and that had TONS of artistic license, considering it's a well known historical event. On that basis alone, I suspect the Transformers will suck.
