The much-anticipated replacement for Maserati's aging Coupe and Spider has been caught out in public wearing Fall's classic basic black. Although the baggy look doesn't do it justice, you can spot a profile that is not unlike the current car. The nose, however, looks like it has been lengthened and lowered somewhat, and the Ferrari Breadvan-like tail has us thinking somebody in Maserati's design house was listening to too much Sir Mix-A-Lot.
Rumor has it the Spider will sport a de rigueur retractable hardtop, in a bid to outdo marketing target Porsche. Based on a shortened version of the Quattroporte's platform, the existing 4.2-liter V8 engine will be paired with a new 470-hp, 5-liter version, as well. The new Skyhook active suspension should help the new Masers turn as well as they go, as well.
