That time of year, again: Lexus SC430 Pebble Beach Edition

The automotive pornucopia that is the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is gearing up as you read this. Tents are being erected, vehicles are having their 108th coat of polish applied and Lexus is doing what has become tradition this time of year, releasing a special edition of its alimony-powered SC430.
The fourth iteration of the Pebble Beach Edition hardtop convertible is a way of celebrating the partnership between Lexus and the Pebble Beach Company. What that relationship consists of can be left to your imagination, but the outcome is more opulence, more badging and more exclusive colors. Starfire Pearl coats the exterior, where inside, one of 400 possible owners will find Pimento Red leather interior with Bird's Eye (read: black) maple trim. Eighteen-inch G-Spiders are fitted within the wheel wells and a small, err, sleek spoiler is fitted to the rear boot lid.
If you really can't help yourself or your divorce settlement finally went through, the limited edition coupe will be available this September.

Given the setting, the hard core enthusiasts, and automotive eye candy on display, I wonder why Lexus bothers wasting money by showing this wheeled marshamllow? Maybe Lexus execs enjoy the show as much as anyone, and are looking for a way to expense $400 a night rooms?

As if the car wasn't bland enough, every SC I see is white in colour. Says a lot about their customers. They have worked hard to work their way up from beige Camrys to white SCs.

In the interest of fairness I have to repeat my post from the PT Cruiser Pacific Coast Highway Edition autoblog entry.
Lexus actually out does the PT Cruiser by having fake bolt heads stamped on a comemorative plaque.

Not only is it boring, it's downright ugly. My "uncle in law" has one (regular, not this special edition), and while driving in it with him one day he commented "who knew going fast could be such a bore". He traded a Supra Turbo in for it, thinking it was a more grown up car. The only thing I can say about the car is the one touch roof is really well designed.

the rims don't seem to match the car. Makes it look cheap.

This thing needs to go on a diet. Maybe next year they could do a "South Beach" edition.

Huh? I see no bird's eye maple--just black ebony. That's not bird's-eye maple, so the original poster is partly correct. :)
