Yesterday, Subaru announced the Subaru Legacy "tuned by STi" package for the Japanese market. Limited to 600 units total, the tuner kit can be ordered for either the Legacy Wagon or Legacy B4 (sedan). No engine modifications are part of the package since it's available only for the 2.0 GT spec.B trim, which already features Legacy's top-of-the-line 280-horsepower mill.

The list of add-ons includes the following:
  • Sport suspension feat. Bilstein dampers
  • 18" STi wheels
  • STi front and rear spoilers
  • Brembo brake upgrade
  • Leather/Alcantara seating with red contrast stitching
  • STi electro-luminescent gauge pack
  • STi badging
  • STi muffler with dual tip
Al of those are applied to the recently-facelifted Legacy, which looked great to begin with, to give it a decidedly sportier look and feel than the already-impressive spec.B model. In addition to the body style, buyers can choose between 6-speed manual or 5-speed (paddle-shift) automatic transmissions. Pricing ranges from ¥3,979,500 ($34,700 USD) to 4,116,000 ($35,800 USD). Dealers are taking orders now, and deliveries will commence in February.

Japan gets all the fun. Forester STi, Legacy STi ... Come on, Subaru! Where's the love?

      7500 redline, nice.
constant pulsation exhaust manifold, less idiots with fart mufflers on Subies, that go blub-blub-blub.

jordan: they have the 2.0L turbo, not the 2.5L we have here.

I'd really like to have this car in either sedan or wagon form, or the Forester STI. The WRX screams "LOOK AT ME!" with that wing, and even the special 2007 edition still screams look at me. I like the Spec-B, I'd buy it if I had the moolah!

Bob-o: thanks for the clarification. I guess I tend to overlook details like that. :)

What a beautiful underbody frame support brace! We might not have the STi Legacy here, but one of the major mags just tried to outspec the Spec-B by installing Tien coilovers and stickier tires. Result - Spec B+! I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to chip the LSB either to make more than the stock ~243hp from that 2.5T.

"Japan gets all the fun. Forester STi, Legacy STi ... Come on, Subaru! Where's the love?"

At your local aftermarket parts dealer, and then at your local sticker shoppe.

I just want them to bring back the manual tranny in the legacy wagon. I was considering trading my WRX for one, then they made it an auto-n-leather only car. This would be the hot ticket though.

Subaru have cars like the WRX STI S204 with 320hp Ran. It might actually be more than that, but that is what Subaru claims it to be so the whole gentlemen's agreement thing really is dead, though it'll probably be a few more years for power levels to get back to where they would have gone to without the agreement in the first place. But yeah the STI and Evo are both underrated, both have been making at least 300hp in 'base model' form (that's still with the 2.0L engine, I don't know about the 2.5) for a few years now.

      This is sweet.

The lease on my Leggy 2.5 GT wagon expires in 18 months and I would love to replace it by an STI 6 speed wagon.

Let's go Subie, give us the good stuff and help us put those Audi S4's & RS4's to shame.
