Ford Mustang Shelby GT unveiled!

Now you don't have to go to a Hertz car rental just to pilot the best Mustang on the planet -- you can actually buy it. Observe the 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT, the car that, until now, was only available as the Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H, the black and gold pony exclusively rented out at your local Hertz Rent-a-Car.
On a tip from our buddies at Winding Road, Ford's grand poo-bah of the Americas, Mark Fields, unveiled the second-wildest steed in the Ford stable for the 2007 model year Aug. 9. For those uninterested in picking up same, the 325 hp beast with automatic transmission (available only as such where the GT-H is concerned), the Shelby GT will come with available manual transmission, as well as in different color schemes: black or white with silver stripes.
Ford's Flat Rock, Mich. plant will churn out 10,000 at most, according to the Associated Press.

Cool, now how about tacking on that ultra-cool tail end from the Mustang concept car I fell in love with at the L.A. Auto Show a few years ago???
The production car was a big disappointment to me compared to the concept. But these limited-edition cars would be a good place to insert a little of that magic from the show car.

Although the Mustang is the only car from Ford that I like, I stopped considering purchasing it when DCX made it official that the Dodge Challenger will be released in Jan. of '08, so I am saving my money for that. Now the only way I would consider purchasing a Mustang is if they put 600 hp for less than $40,000, which will never happen.

Well...according to the Ford Racing Performance Parts website...the GT-H is a GT with the following options:
Power Upgrade Package...$889
Handling Package...$1,149
Race Rear Brake Pads x2...$410
Performance X-Pipe...$139
So about a total of $2587 for the "performance" additions. Add in $360 for the Ford Racing Stripes and a bit more for the grill/decorations and you have about a 3k package before the 10 man hours (per latest Motor Trend) to convert a GT to a GT-H. I wonder how this rough estimation will translate into real world cost.
I'd rather see an inbetween of the GT and GT500. Call it a GT350 or Boss.

Based on real world usage, how about a V6 with better suspension, brakes, and maybe a few engine tweaks. I sold my Aprilia motorcycle for a supermotard and am having as much fun. Hard to use the power of the V8 on the street and still keep your license and insurance.

That's a beautiful car, if I had the money I'd definately consider it! They're making a lot of different variations of the Mustang now, almost too many!
The V-6 has the Pony Package available
The GT has the California package
Now this Mustang Shelby GT
Cobra
I guess I really can't knock Ford for making all these variations, I see several of these cars around every day and despite the fact that they lack exclusivity, I'd still LOVE to have one!

Agreed, this is one cool looking car and I especially like the white with gray stripes. Though it's strange that only one of the stripes extends through the grille...but that's ok, I guess.
And why is it that in almost every single Mustang post, there's somebody saying, "If only it had IRS."

Found On Road Dead= FORD I have had some bad experiences with Ford and so have my parents. Still though, I love RWD vehicles. Currently I have a WRX STI which is a ton of fun, and the off the line "snap" is almost uncontested, but I always enjoy a fast RWD vehicle that can continue to pull even at high speeds.

great car...but the price keeps going up...the auto builders are asked to take a pay cut...gas is $3+ a gallon...who can afford to own or operate it...Ford can afford to lower the price..or if at least spend some of the excess profits to build a good football team...break out the paper bags again!
