New Chevrolet Aveo prepares to roll out mid-month, in the east

General Motors Thailand has announced that the new Chevy Aveo will be rolling off the assembly lines sometime in mid-August.
Details on the new subcompact are scarce, but we know that it's the first major collaboration between GM's international production teams, with aid from Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America and North America, joined by penmanship courtesy of the Italdesign Giugiaro Design Studio. Aside from the mutli-cultural design language, the new Aveo will include a "euro-tuned" suspension along with interior space rivaling some of the biggest players in its class.
The new sub-compacts are to be produced in Rayong Province, Thailand and will only be sold in Thailand and the Asian-Pacific region. It's unknown how much of this version will transfer over to the American Aveo (pictured) which is due for a redesign some time this year.

Well the current Aveo is basically a rebadged Daewoo Kalos. Will the new version also have Daewoo influence.

Another hideous car. Good job, GM. Someone needs to tell their designers that GOLD is not currently in style, especially not on cheap cars like this.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. GM can shrivel up and die, just leave Corvette behind.

It reminds me of the Nissan Sentra. The old one not the up coming one. I don't like the style of it. Headlights lack style blandish. I don't know maybe other people will like this style.

"Details are scarce"
Uh, go to www.chevy.com and there you can build and price the 2007 Aveo right now.
Been up there for at least a week. I'm driving a 2006 Aveo rental while my Mazda3 in in the shop and I looked up details on it last Tuesday when I got it and saw the 2007 info there.

You're right, that new Aveo redesign has appeared on the GM US website. It looks slightly better than the early Aveo, but still scares me away with it's "I'm a weak compact economical vehicle" look.
The Aveo was in my price range, but I opted to buy a used Honda Accord anyways. I am tired of these ugly looking econoboxes.

I will say one thing, I think that Chevy is doing a much better job of establishing a corporate "face" lately. This Aveo reskin looks at least partly like the new Impala/Monte Carlo face, whic in turn resembles the Cobalt face, and the new Malibu will look similar as well. You may think it is bland, but at least it looks tasteful, and I'd rather see tastefully bland than tacky (see last gen Monte and current gen monte's rear end).

How is it any worser than the new Elantra or Yaris?

I can't help but make this a Toyota, GM fight. I saw one of Toyota's FJ Cruisers on the road yesterday and I couldn't believe that any manufacturer would produce that, let alone sell any. (Then again, I've only seen one so they aren't exactly flying off the lots) For all you GM haters out there that say GM makes bland, boring vehicles. The FJ is far uglier than anything Ford or GM produces.

amen sid, ditto the Honda Fit. I test drove one. After about 11 seconds i couldn't get out of it fast enought. what a pile. don't get me wrong, the aveo is a turd too, but it's a lot cheaper than a Fit or Yaris.

That Honda Fit and Yaris(who makes the Yaris)are so ugly they hurt my feelings. That Aveo is a clean looking little ride.

Okay... this is an ecomony car. Bad mileage vs. the competition in, say, an SUV isn't a big deal because that's not very high on the priority list... But this is an ECONOMY CAR!
Why is the city mileage 26 (auto) or 27 (manual) in a 103 hp tin can? We'll ignore highway mileage for now as these aren't really highway cars.
Yaris (a,m)34
Fit (m) 33
Accent (m) 32
Fit (a) 31
Versa (m) 30
Versa (cvt) 30
They've not only been outdone by one of the Japanese big-3, they've been crapped on by them ALL!
Even the Scion xB, with all the aerodynamic performance of a Borg cube, AND more power, STILL manages to keep it at 30! This Chevy is a collaboration of engineers from around the globe? How far do the fingers of GM's ineptness reach?

Of course it doesn't look that great, no super-small car like to Aveo is expected to look really special. I would have to say that it looks pretty good for its size. It has the body lines of a bigger car and a more grown-up appearance overall than rivals like the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris. I think the main appearance problem is that the bowtie on the grille is a little big. Otherwise, a job well done and the Aveo has always been the cutest car in it segment.
#11- Why don't you buy a moped then you friggin' treehugger? Where are your sources? To tell me the Aveo doesn't get good mileage- HA!
#2- I hear a Ford fan fighting a losing battle, stop now, you'll never win and you'll shrivel up and die before GM ever does.

Don't know about where you are, but they are absolutely everywhere here. The black ones are affectionately known as 'skunkmobiles' in our family.
And I saw the new Aveo on the road yesterday. From a distance, the rear makes it look like a Fusion that's been left in the dryer a bit too long.

FWIW - The 40K mile 2006 rental I'm driving ain't so bad. No sports car, but for a bottom of the barrel kind of vehicle ($12,800 sticker for this one), it's surprisingly roomy, pretty solid and competent.
#5 & #11 hits the real problems for the Aveo. $12,800 will buy you a used Civic or Corrola with more room, more power, better looks and as good or better MPG. What does the Aveo give me then, besides a warranty?

After all the awful partnerships/affiliations GM has screwed up in recent years, the Daewoo purchase has been a bright spot.
The Aveo is the right car at the right time. Seems that it's a decent, inexpensive car that'll get respect as more people downsize to economy cars. Turning into serious transportation in the U.S. is a good idea IMO.
I'd be concerned about safety in a car so small and light, but if OTHER vehicles shrank accordingly, safety wouldn't be as much of an issue.

They are all ugly as a formless piece of turd.
I just want to know if there's any common rule that states all econoboxes HAVE to be ugly?
Cause EVERY SINGLE ONE of car manufactures follows that trend.
Good $DEITY, such lame designs...

I have a suspicion Honda designers played with Transformers when they were little and Toyota designers played with Barbie dolls.

The 2007 Eveo sedan gets awful mileage for its size and weight.
The new 2007 Aveo's offset-impact crash test results are dismal as well.
