Shell's "Million Gallon Giveaway"
More than 200,000 happy U.S. motorists will be awarded free gasoline by Shell Oil as part of a promotional contest launched Monday. Shell will give away more than $2 million in free gas and instant-win prizes, including six grand prizes of - wait for it - a lifetime supply of free gasoline! Hundreds of thousands of other winners will walk away with $10 Shell Gas Cards. The 'lifetime' prize isn't entirely open-ended - winners actually get 302 $300 Shell Gas Cards, based on 50 years of driving 13,500 miles/year and consuming 675 gallons a year.
"Scratch and Win" game cards are available at Shell outlets through October 1, and even if you don't win, it's not a total loss - each game card features a money-saving fuel tip to improve your fuel efficiency. Follow the "Read" link for full contest details.

I fill up exclusively with Shell fuel anyway, so maybe I have a pretty good chance.

Will we be drivung gasoline powered cars in 50 years? Will oil supplies last another 50 years? Does Shell know something we don't?

Im guessing that if they knew the real answers to those questions they could find much more profitable ventures than selling scratch and win tickets.

robino, simple, just ebay the $300 gas cards and take all the money now. you're gonna need it to pay for the taxes anyhow.

Robino,
Would it really suprise you if the big oil companies started "finding" new reserves in the next 10 years?

I just got one of those yesterday, perhaps I should scratch it off...
Erg, "Please play again!" But thankfully it gave me a fuel savings tip...
"Easy does it. Be gentle on the brakes and gas pedal - it can increase gas mileage"
Wow, who knew?

It'd be funny if the winner owns a Hummer H1.

eBay would be the way to go on this one. A $300 gas card 40 years from now is likely to result in ONE fill up!

How about instead of giving away 2 million bucks, they lower the gas price at all of their stations as a promo. Everyone would save, and they would still be making money....just a thought.

Instead of fornicating the dog in the corner and playing games, just lower the price across the board. Been there done this with oil companies before, lets see Arco Arks, dolls of the world, silverware, steak knives, glasses, china, Melmac, Wiki-Wiki dollars, 76 antenna balls, the several Shell sweepstakes in the late 60's early 70's.
The American public keeps being suckers, just like going to Vegas or the Lottery tickets. Your chance of whinning? One in more people than on the face of the earth.
When they double the price again, guess what? 1/2 a lifetime of fuel.

I'm in. Those gas cards would last me 1.6 million miles in my Insight.

I think plenty of people know how to drive more efficiently...it's just not enjoyable. It's also really not enjoyable when you get stuck behind someone in a Prius who is playing the "best fuel economy" video game on a traffic-free stretch of road (or while people are trying to merge).

I agree. Ebay or Craigslist would be the way to go.
Sell them, say, and a 10 or 20 percent discount and people would snap them up. You'd only have to prove that you were the one who won the giveaway.

I frequent your station in Bensalem township on Street road...I always fill the 12 gallon tank up with your v-power....so why didnt the tendants tell me about the great gas contest? Why dont you alert them to the fact, that they should be handing out game pieces to ALL OF THE CUSTOMERS!!! I sure did not receive one...$40.00 every week in gas fillups...at least they could give me a game piece...what kind of racket is this?

I am holding two tickets for the Million Gallon Giveway. The scratch off says please play again. Is that for the Million Gallons or just the thousands of other prizes? It is not very clear what to do.
