It looks like Nissan will be giving its full-size Armada SUV an update for the 2008 model year. While the front end gets refreshened with a new corporate grille sporting two vertical bars that plunge down into a central dip, the real makeover will occur in the interior. A new dash can be seen in these spy shots that drops the current model's chunky design in favor of a more flush center console that borrows some switchgear from Infiniti. No word on when Nissan's going to lower the Armada's rear door handles so that kids and short people can get into the back seat without assistance.

      Ken,
      Nothing against you at all...
..but I will start the bashing.

      I don't like 99% of SUVs.
I think it's rediculous when there is only one person driving.
I think it uses a lot of gas.
..and I don't like the look of this vehicle

There is your bashing...without bias to country!

      :-)

Gee Ken, what's got your knickers in a twist this morning? Freedom of choice is reciprocal--you're free to drive an Expedition for its pose value, but we're free to call you on it, too.

With regard to the Armada, this was already one of the least-competitive products in its segment, so it needed the update. Unfortunately, nothing suggests that Nissan fixed the harsh ride, dumb rear door handles, or worst-in-class fuel economy.

I think the most significant news here is that--mark your calendars--an import brand just strived to emulate a *GM interior*. The Armada's new dash trim and console have '07 Tahoe written all over them.

I still wish I had my once brand new 1968 Rambler American 2 door that got 25 mpg in town and 30 mgp on the highway.
It took me from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico and back and did it effieciently.

JMa, a barrel of crude is 42 gallons, from which slightly less than 20 gallons of gasoline are extracted. The rest goes to heating oil, diesel, jet fuel, etc etc etc.

So your example of 50 extra gallons of gas can be called the equivalent of about 2.5 barrels of crude oil. Or maybe it would be more appropriate to say just 1 single barrel of crude. You could argue either way.

Lack of criticism? Sorry, but you guys are seeing what you want to see.

Of the 11 comments here that *aren't* off-topic rants about hippies and liberals, I count 7 that bash the Armada versus 1 vaguely positive one.

"What? Facts? Oh, sh-... what do we do...oh.. I know.. BIAS!!!"

Koba was right. The deal here is that full-size SUVs--regardless of origin--get no love from most car enthusiasts (or, for that matter, famously conservative buff books like C&D). They're big, they're slow, and they're boring to drive. For most of us, the disdain does not stem from party affiliation.

The interior looks nice. Much better than that angular, goofy interior of recent past.

Not sure how this turned into "Point/Counterpoint" so I'll try to get back to topic, well sort of.

Ken is exactly right about the lack of bashing. I saw this post about the Armada earlier in the day before any comments were made. I said to myself then, there will not be one post regarding "just another gas guzzling behemoth". "why do they even build these things?" "The Big 3 are so out of touch with what people want to buy".

The hypocrits (no political persuasion implied) here amaze me.

      hey ken,

at least some of us liberals know that this gas guzzling behemoth isn't japanese made, it is built right here in the south(mississippi). I don't like that it gets horrible gas mileage either but apparently people want them because they sell like hot cakes down here in FL.

Look, global warming started when the Ice Age ended. Why do you think the Ice Age ended? All of the current environmental wackism going on now is purely political. Humans CANNOT destroy the earth. Collectively, we are very arrogant to think so, but look, no matter what we do, even if the US and Russia exploded all of their nuke weapons, the earth would recover. Sure it would take a lot of time, but the earth would still be around, and life would commence again.
#8, where do you get the info that the Armada will produce 3.5 times the pollution as a CTS, if both are driven the same mileage? As it stands now, cars emit miniscule amounts of pollution. Cows produce far more pollution than cars. How's about a fat dose of methane, folks?
We are well on the way to solutions for pollution from automobiles. I wonder what the environmental jihadists will point the finger at next.

Jonathan, the key word to your statement is SHOULD. Because it does, or won't. People use this board to bash American cars and car companies. Those same people aren't even in the market for the vehicles they bash. I would rather take my family aross the country in a large SUV than a VW Jetta, for example.

For those who believe man is causing global warming, I will join you, when it's proven. The earth is warming, but it didn't start when big SUV's became a hot item. People on both sides of the global warming issue have their own politcal agendas. Don't kid yourself if you argue that point. The left wants to spend billions to stop it, without proof that it's not a natural evolution. The right wants to hang on to their wallets until it is proven humans are causing it. In 1983 time magazine warned on it's cover that the earth is cooling and we're doomed unless we do something. Now that same magazine is warning the earth is warming and we're all doomed if we don't do something to stop it. Let's all leave the knee jerk reactions for when we're hit on the knee by a doctor during your annual physical.
