Rumors of a Bentley SUV in the works continue to swirl, with WorldCarFans reporting the off-roader has been dubbed the "Cross Continental" internally. The Bentley CC will likely be based on the next gen. Touareg/Cayenne/Q7 platform, which would explain why all the spy shots we've seen have been of Porsche Cayenne mules.Fortunately Hans Lehmann and the gang produced a pair of nice renderings that indicate how the CC will wear Bentley's styling cues when it first appears at the Frankfurt Motor Show next year. The twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 that powers the Continental GT, Continental Flying Spur and Continental GTC convertible will also be the likely powerplant for the Bentley SUV.

This is just about the last thing this world needs! Yep, throw the kids and the soccer equipment in the back and head to the Dairy Queen after the game.

Looks like the Flying B has taken some guidance from it's parents of the PORSCHE-Audi-Volks group....
"Why develop a new design for a new platform when we already have a car?"
Damn that is one ugly thing.

It's true. We're doomed!

Dont force a design if it doesnt fit in, looks like a Bentley with a Hummer suspension,
Bentleyin its need to make profits, they forgot that profits its only a result of sales, and if its going to look like that, i can count the buyers with my fingers.

Guess the demand comes from the rap stars and athletes to build something like this. Even if I had the cash, no thanks.

Real talk. I think this might be one of the worst, brand tradition designs forced to onto a SUV format.

Oh, I don't know, it's no worse than many of the other attempts to translate passenger car lines into an SUV profile. Frankly, I think this looks less chunky than the Audi variant, and light years more distinctive than Porsche's unfortunate VW clone.
My question is whether Bentley (and VW in general) is so late to the SUV party that it will never make a decent profit off of what would appear to be a rather expensive platform.
I suppose VW created a Bentley version to rack up at least a bit more volume, but I suspect that the more successful approach would have been to develop a crossover design that displayed a stronger Bentley lineage.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
looks like a rich man's hearse with all-weather capabilities... as if the corpse is gonna go anywhere.
Peter @ Jul 26th 2006 11:14PM
It certainly won't have any competition in price terms, now that the H1 Alpha has been discontinued. And who knows, it might even steal some sales from the supercharged Range Rover.
PJ @ Jul 26th 2006 11:39PM
If it looks like a photochopped Flying Spur with extra ground clearance... it's because that's exactly what we're looking at. The actual photos of prototype mules give no indication of what this vehicle will actually look like.
That said, I sure hope the renderings aren't based on inside tips. The Flying Spur's lines don't translate well to a tall two-box body--it looks like one of any number of bland "off-road sports car" concepts from the late '90s.
On second thought, I take that back. I *do* hope it looks like this. Poor sales would be a fitting punishment for VW's dumbing down of Bentley with a Touareg-based fake-virility-vehicle.

i want a fast hybred jag crossover build on the new discovery platform...
WillDaThrill @ Jul 27th 2006 1:54AM
Now I'm with the tree huggers on this one. Do we really need another SUV? Especially for some rich bastard that could give a damn about anyone but him/herself. I mean, really? In light of our rising gas prices, I think we've turned out more SUV's in the past two years than years prior.
Auto @ Jul 27th 2006 3:01AM
Now that the luxury SUV market does not show any signs of slowing down but rather keeps going, Bentley is about to develop a genuine production 4x4 SUV, this time based on the next generation VW Touareg-Porsche Cayenne platform.

Perhaps if the obese, ignorant Americans stopped buying these gas guzzling machines to move their fat asses around to the closest KFC, perhaps then we wouldn't see these hideous creations.

"Out of my way little man" an old Bentley ad, it fits
JZeke @ Jul 27th 2006 7:29AM
If Bentley HAS to have an SUV, why cant it be more radical at least? I'm sick of every new SUV product being another "me-too" soap bar. In the 1930s Bentleys could be driven off the track at LeMans all the way to Dakar with no mods. So why cant a new SUV be Bentley be a bad-ass street car that can be taken off road too?
If its going to cost more than a Scottsdale condo, why not try and push the envelope a bit?
Blake @ Jul 27th 2006 8:08AM
No.
