Colin McRae-designed rally car to debut at Goodwood
One of the most successful drivers in rally history, Colin McRae, has designed his own rally car that will be put into limited production after its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. The Prodrive Subaru Impreza rally car pictured helped make McRae a household name, along with the videogame Colin McRae Rally that has graced all manner of game machines.4Car reports that the car was designed with the privateer in mind and will feature four-wheel drive, a 2.5L engine and a unique spaceframe chassis. Not much else is known about the rally car, like which partners McRae has collaborated with to produce it or where the financial backing comes from, but we'll get our first look at the car this weekend at Goodwood, and hopefully more info to fill in the gaps.

What does it mean to design a car "with a privateer in mind"?

2.5L?
Don't WRC rules limit displacement to 2.0L?

remember, clubman rally in the uk & europe is just huge. there would be no financial benefit to him for building a wrc car, but he could sell a whole pot full of cars to weekend warriors if it's priced right.

#1:
Privateers are people who enter races without corporate sponsorship (Subaru, Citroen, Peugeot, etc.), so I guess it will probably be a relatively inexpensive rally car.

Two with one stone.
#1 Tim - "Privateer in mind" most likely meaning a car designed for private rally teams not affiliated directly with the manufacturer as opposed to the teams seen in the WRC. Therefor this car is not designed for WRC specs and therefore not going to race in the WRC. Most likely that means the car won't be as high tech as seen in the WRC simply to minimize costs for the privateer team and ease maintenance of the vehicle with a smaller crew.
#2 Kamil - And since this car in its direct form will not be racing in the WRC, the 2.5L will fit in most large displacement categories in rallies that have them . The WRC is not the only rally championship in the world! That is not to say they would make a WRC variant to comply with WRC standards. That would really depend on the manufacturers that Colin decided to team up with.

#2 I don't think the car will be made for WRC competition. Will be a colection car. Colin McRae won the world title in 1995 with Subaru.

How could Colin McRae design a car when he's already dead?
