Bentley's first SUV - the Dominator

Last week we posted on the prospect of Bentley entering the SUV fray with a model based on the platform underpinning the Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg, and Audi Q7. Sybarites went digging to find the first example of a Bentley SUV called the Dominator that was a concept produced back in 1994. The Dominator was based on Range Rover mechanicals, and while never produced, the Sultan of Brunei ordered a few, which are the only known examples in existence. According to the site, these pics are from an undercover story published in AutoCar back in 1998. If Bentley did decide to build an SUV, like the Dominator, it would owe its existence to other SUVs already in production, and we're sure the company could count on the Sultan to buy a few.

Rappers alone would buy enough of those things to make it worthwhile for Bentley if they were to make one now. That still doesn't mean it's a good idea ;)

A Dominator? This is a previous generation Land Cruiser, a Hyundai Terracan and a baby Navigator all piled into a sad looking rendering. C'mon, are they seroius?

Thank goodness for Bentley they didn't produce that mostrosity. they make some beautiful cars. This isn't one of them. Glad to see they had some restraint back in 1994.

You could take that thing, drop it back into 1980 and it would look perfectly normal.

Another example of when money and bad taste meet.

I guess they chose "Dominator" since the "Bentley Penis Extender" didn't play well with the target market.

I wonder how many people, after glancing through the pictures and skimming the article will think that this is a brand new (and current) product... and how many of these people will post here. :)

dreesemonkey,
Didn't you get the memo? Ignorant "rapper" comments for anything dealing with luxury is old, lame and should be avoided.

are YOU serious?!? did you even read the post? this is no rendering, it's the real thing. and it's not new, it's from the 90's.
Kamil (#7) has a good point...do people just come to this site, look at the pictures without reading, and just post a rant on how much it sucks?

that shiz is ugly. If the Lincoln Navigator existed in the 80s that would it would have looked like.

The Sultan of Brunei had a whole fleet of custom Brit cars - Aston Martin & Ferrari wagons, etc. that were built under nondisclosure.

I would hope that if/when they choose to produce their new SUV that it's at least as attractive as it's platform mates. I wasn't a fan of the Porsche Cayenne at first, but it's grown on me, and the Toureg and Q7 are both good examples of clean, inoffensive designs. This, however, is a hideous part of Bentley's history that should have stayed buried.
