SMART forfour production ends - Mitsubishi and DaimlerChrysler part ways

The end of June saw the end of production for the SMART forfour that was produced through a joint collaboration between Mitsubishi and DaimlerChrysler. The forfour was produced at Mitsusbishi's facility in the Netherlands where the Colt will continue to be made. An engine plant in Germany that was jointly operated by both companies will be handed over to DaimlerChrysler.
While SMART has information on the fortwo, forfour and Roadster on its website, the brand will be down to just one car, the fortwo, with the exit of the forfour. The Roadster Finale currently being sold is a special edition model to mark the end of that car's production run.

It seems extraordinary to me that a car with such a bold and modern design has had to stop production because of poor sales. Either Daimler-Chrysler have got their desired sales figures wrong (too high). Who would buy a 207, C3, Clio, Corsa or Fiesta, when something as fabulous as the smart forfour is placed in front of you? Such a shame! The forfour always induces a friendly smile when the relatively rare glimpse of one is made in here in London.

I owe one. It's a great car! It's a stupudity of DC to cease the production of this car. Why does not DC sell smart brand, rather than stopping the stylish products?

I've had a for four for 2 months and it's just a great car, fun toi drive economical with plemty of oomph. It's such a shame that it's going out of production. There must be a marketing problem as no other car in it's calss can compare with. Come on keep it going

I wish Smart had kept the Forfour going and sold it here in the U.S. with gas prices shooting up to almost 4 dollars a gallon people would love to have a car that saves almost 45mpg. It's a shame a very great looking car has to cease production like that. When Smart could've stolen sales from them ugly Scions and Kia Rios. Smart put the Forfour back in production you'd sale millions here in the U.S.

Now that production has stopped the value of our two year old forfour is minimal even from a Smart Dealer. As the vehicle will be out of warranty very soon it is time to offload the vehicle as rapidly as possible for the best possible deal but it will be a big financial loss...thank you daimler chrysler!
