Michael Bay has quietly uploaded the first trailer to his upcoming live-action movie Transformers, and it gives us our first real glimpse at how he's handling the franchise. We won't spoil the trailer for you by saying what happens, but if you're expecting to see a Chevy Camaro Concept transform in front of your eyes then you'll be disappointed. Still, with the film's actual release date of July 4th, 2007 being more than a year way, we'll take what we can get.

Coronation, Starscream? This is bad comedy...

So... they're from Mars... and look like automobiles and aircraft from Earth? Not sure about this one...

Maybe they're just waiting on Mars before they attack Earth?

Where is the trailer? All I see is the front page of the website sitting there.

#2 I don't really know anything about them, but the premise is that they're from very far away and when they go to a new planet they give themselves forms(or they get created from scratch and brought to life or...err it's not important)that are approporate disguises.

To see the trailer click on 'Watch The Exclusive Announcement Now' link. Looks pretty cool to me - I can't wait.

#5 Ok that actually makes sense. For a moment I was like... Ok from Mars but kinda looks like a 18 wheeler.

All I've got to say is that I really hope Bay doesn't screw the live action transition up...this is one of the few movies in awhile that I'm actually half-interested/excited to see.
Though I wonder if they're going to go with more mature-ish dialog, or if they'll try to keep it very kid friendly and retain the classic corny lines up the wazoo. Though if done right, I think the cheesy dialog of the past could add to the entertainment value or at least not detract from it.

I don't know how much they are sticking to the original story, but the Autobots and Decepticons aren't from Mars, but another planet called Cybertron, where they did look like other vehicles, and when they land on a new planet, they find appropriate vehicles to transform into, as correctly pointed out by #5.
JB @ Jun 30th 2006 2:49PM
Yes, Cybertron is correct. But maybe you could say that they received the information on what to be rebuilt as, by the Autobot's ship computer, on transmissions from Earth. Remember, TV signals and data do continue out into space, that's what SETI is listening for from other worlds, basically. So, the ship's computer received all the signals, and determined where they were coming from, a nearby planet with energy sources, so used our vehicles as a basis. Not a huge stretch as scripts go.

Yes and remember the whole reason they come here is that they harvest energon cubes from our planets resources for use in their civil war.
Peter Lacis @ Jun 30th 2006 3:06PM
I'm psyched to see what the "Energon" cubes look like!
Talis @ Jun 30th 2006 3:19PM
Or maybe this is just a clip so we can all say "Sweet..." and has nothing to do with the story line. there have been many trailers before with just say DARTH VADER BREATHING even though there is no vader yet (SW ep2 trailer). or maybe the X-men movies with so many quick action trailers all you take away is "this movie is going to ROCK!"
James @ Jul 1st 2006 11:13AM
This is starting to feel a lot like Aliens vs. Predator. The concept is brilliant, but the directors desire to focus on the humans and their interaction will take away most of the fun from the film.
