POLL RESULTS: Name that Volkswagen

The votes have been tallied in our Name the Volkswagen poll. Among the five names that Volkswagen has offered as possible monikers for its next small SUV, one stood out among the rest with 28-percent of the vote: Nanuk. Other names, such as Tiguan (a combination of the words "tiger" and "iguana" and one bad ass creature we wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley) and Samun were close behind with 23- and 24-percent of the vote, respectively.
We've learned, however, that none of VW's proposed monikers hits anywhere near the mark with Autoblog readers. Remembering that VW has a penchant for naming its cars using wind as a theme, so it may be that Samun, a hot desert wind that blows in North Africa, has the best shot of becoming affixed to the SUV's rear end. According to the company, however, it will stand by whatever name Autobild readers choose. Are you ready to drive away in a VW Tiguan?

Shouldn't it be spelled "Nanook" as in Frank Zappa's "Nanook Rubs It". That way you can always be reminded not the eat the yellow snow on those artic adventures.

I like Samun
"Hey John, How do you like my new Volkswagen Samun"
"Is this the new Samun"
"I got the new Samun"
Not bad.

Umm... I don't know what idiot suggested Samun... the word is actually "Khamsin" in Arabic and Touareg (coincidentally the name of the other Volkswagen SUV).

They all suck. Why not just call it "wii"?

I doubt the name "Samun" would help sales in the States... until consumers saw the name spelled, they'd think it's named after a fish.
Better than the "Volkswagen Carp," though, I suppose.

BTW Khamsin was one of the most beautiful Maserati models from the seventies. Other wind names Maserati used include Ghibli, Bora, Merak...All beautiful.
I like Volkswagen names: Isn't Touareg, Nanuk, Samun or TiGuan better than S550, CTS, 330 or RX350? Names have personalities, letters/numbers don't.
Go Volkswagen!

How about a name most people could pronounce? There's a novel idea.

Why not use "Dune"..or revive the "Thing" moniker.

Whatever happened to the Bedouin name? I like the idea of naming SUV's after nomadic tribes. Better than naming it after mountain ranges, or mandating that they all start with the letter E, or other such lameness.

#6 - If ever there were a perfectly relevant, understatedly witty comment, it's yours.

LOL, all those names are awful. Maybe they should name it Kanga or Roo or Kangaroo... Since they are on the animal kicj now with the new Rabbit. Kangaroos store their children in a pouch. Would describe the SUV, take along your children and stuff and hop along out of the way.
