AutoPacific announced its 2006 Ideal Vehicle Awards yesterday and the Toyota Prius was among the winners. AutoPacific, an automotive research and consulting firm had owners rate their 2006 model year cars and trucks by how closely they come to the owner's ideal vehicle. The cars or trucks that owners would change the least are the most ideal, the company said in a press release.

Hyundai was the top-rated brand in the IVA, and Japanese automakers did well overall. "Large car/Luxury car" won for Ideal Product Segment. To me, this shows the people AutoPacific asked were not all interested solely in environmental issues, which makes the Prius' top standing even more impressive.
