Volkswagen Jetta wagon to be unveiled in Paris
The five-door wagon version of the Volkswagen Jetta is expected to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show this fall, according to TheCarConection. In a preview to journalists, VW showed off the new design of the vehicle, which has a "sweeping roofline" akin to that of the Saab 9-3 SportCombi and Mercedes-Benz C-class wagon. It also sports a roof spoiler, more room than its predecessor, and several engine options: 2.5L inline five cylinder, a 2.0L turbo four cylinder and a GLI sport model. The diesel should return in 2008 once VW and the U.S. government can work out its diesel differences.

A GLI wagon!!
Too bad I don't like the new Jetta much. It'd need sportier steering, a slicker manual transmission, more individual styling, and a less staid demeanor for me to spend my $25K on one of those instead of a larger, faster, AWD Legacy 2.5 GT wagon.

I can't think of one really positively remembered Jetta sedan, on my part at least. The Jetta wears much better as a wagon.

Apparently, the Jetta V is called Jetta in Europe too. The name came back.
I had a Vento (Jetta III) and then came the Bora (Jetta IV) now it's just a Jetta yet again.
For some reason the front end does not look as ugly there:

Probably because the license plate covers the hideous grill and also, the EU version does not have the 7 inch lift of the US version.

Unfortunately, no link to good photos of the US version, since the us VW.COM sucks.

Too bad it will be a while until the TDI arrives in the US (if ever). A TDI wagon with a DSG would be great, though if Subaru offered a (hybrid?) diesel wagon that would be about as good as I could hope for.

-uhhh, you really need to flip that around. My buddies and I called the 2000-2005 jetta wagon a car that looks like a jewish mother would drive. I don't know why but it just does.

I think the new Jetta sedan looks hideous, and the wagon seems to also. They're trying to make them look too much like Passats and are failing miserably.

I own an 06 Jetta and love it. Now I do not understand what you all are talking about the front looking ugly, I happen to like its aggressive look. It is the back I hate. It looks like a Toyota Corolla in the back, especially the taillights. To fix that VW sales white taillights for a mere $250. That is the only thing VW needs to change, the back, I love the new corporate grill and front of the Jetta as I said

i love the ideas of hatchbacks and wagons... but them overhangs are really ungainly...
and with the pricing strategies of vw nowadays, it's probably going to be $1000+ at least over the next competitor

Its about time a Golf (Jetta) wagon came out. Somehow the idea of a "Golf Plus" or "Touran" as wagon substitutes didn't quite cut it.

I have owned a 02 Jetta IV & 10 other V-dubs B4 and really like it.But the new Jetta V has NO character at all. (Never like the huge grill like the Audi's). And it resembles a Toyota Corolla. For VW fans like me, really disappointed! Have to wait for the next generation & hope it will be better.

I don't really understand the Jetta criticism from MkIV owners. The MkV has far more European driving characteristics than the MkIV, which is almost Buick-like by comparison. Yes, the MkV doesn't have as distinctive of exterior styling, but the same thing was said about the MkIV compared with the MkIII when it first came out. At the end of the day, aren't the driving characteristics more important?
The MkVs also seem much more reliable than MkIVs, if warranty claims are any indication (they still need work on IQS, though).
As for VW pricing, that's changing, fast. They've realized that they need to position the base models lower down, so the 07 Jettas carry lower prices than 06s (the trade-off is that more features have been relegated to the option packages, but it seems like the de-contenting has been fairly tame).
