Honda Civic 3-door to debut at London Motor Show

Honda's "Built-in-Britain" line-up will be complete when the brand new 3-door Honda Civic makes it world debut at the London Motor Show in July and appears alongside the 5-door Civic and Civic Type-R. All three models are built in Swindon, Wiltshire. Honda's display this year will be the largest ever for the London Motor Show and include the Legend luxury sedan, which is a version of the Acura RL sold in North America, as well as an F1 exhibit and Honda's battery of environmentally friendly cars, mopeds and motorbikes.

I'm hoping the 3-door will be the new CRX in the U.S. This car is hot!

I second that. Give me that over the butt ugly Fit anyday.

Seriously, that is a beautiful car. Too bad Honda probably thinks that the US market doesn't like hatchbacks because of the failure of the previous gen Si. In reality, I (and many others like me) didn't like the last gen hatch Si because it didn't handle as well as the Si it replaced (99/00 coupe).

Are you saying you think it's only shortcoming was its handling? That had to be one of the most overrated cars of the last decade.

It looks more like a traditional hatchback rather than a fastback like the CRX was, but other than that it does look "inspired" enough to wear a CRX badge(especially with the vertical glass window on the hatch). Probably the closest thing Honda will ever get to one again. Temple of VTEC has a black one on their June calandar and when I first saw it my reaction was "damn, that looks a lot like my old CRX Si(also black) at that angle".

I have been waiting for 20 years for a worthy successor to my '87 CRX Si and this car would fit the bill. Honda, are you listening?

#6 I'm still waiting for worthy successors to my 83 and 91 Civic. So far I've found the closest things at my Mazda dealership.

Man, that 3-door is hot! Forget the unappreciative Americans, Canada loves ya!

BTW, the UK civic is based off the Fit/Jazz platform, not the global Civic chassis like we have in the USA and shared in Japan.

Although I own the 06 Si, I must say the 3-door hatch is growing on me quite a bit. So the 3-door is smaller than the 5? Initially I thought they just took out the door, but seeing them side by side it looks like the 3-door hatch is smaller.
Oh, and I snicker every time I see "Swindon." Wonder if there are rival companies being built at Slough.

I'm beginning to think that Honda is no better than Ford in this regard - so many nice cars in europe, and not bringing them here. The need a three door in the Fit or Civic space. I just don't get the Civic coupe - who wants a trunk on a car this size? The Integra/RSX is a much more useful car.

So when did Peugot start designing for Honda?
Or is Honda feeling a little left out of the Euro-Trash foray?
Nice tail lights. Good to see Honda is giving APC a run for their money.

using my super-scientific image analysis method (ie, dropping it into photoshop and dragging a select box between the wheelwells and seeing how many pixels it is) i think its just an optical illusion, they're about the same size. the 3-door, like most 3-doors, has longer doors than the 5-door version, so the rear window area looks smaller

The UK's the biggest market for hot hatches and the Type-R's going to be the strongest contender, its not all about outright HP, I'm looking forward to this!

Are you kidding? Of course Honda is listening! -and here is the reply: " You wanted a CRX replacement? too bad! this is PERFECT so YOU CAN"T HAVE IT!"

Americans do not like Hatches...Look at the Mini Cooper, and the Golf, I think americans do not like crappy hatches like the previous Si which got hit with the ugly stick a bunch of times on the outside, then to make matters worse the then took that same ugly stick and made it the shifter as it protruded from the dash. Give me leather seats and a big ol moonroof in this thing with the current Si's engine / tranny and well I am sold. Make it with AWD and I will go on the waitlist for this thing with a deposit today.
Current Mini Cooper S owner and aspiring autocrosser.

The next-generation Civic Type R and five-door version are the best-looking Hondas since the S2000.
I hope that both of these cars are someday sold in the USA. The Type R looks good enough to be a poor man's Alfa Romeo Brera.
And while we're on the subject, why couldn't Honda offer a Type R Cabrio ( a poor man's S2000 )??
