The next Mercedes-Benz C-Class wagon has been snagged testing in Germany.
Seen underneath the standard cloak-and-dagger spyshooter eveningwear is a cautiously evolutionary shape that could only carry the three-pointed star. That said, the perennial entry-level luxury player rides on an entirely new platform, with the predictable (and welcome) share of S-Class technology and styling trickledown.
According to UK magazine AutoCar, European market engine choices are likely to range from a 1.8-liter four-banger all the way up to a 6.2-liter V8 for the C63 fettled by AMG.
Expect to see the showroom-ready C-Class hit at the Geneva show next year.

looks "undynamic" ... too fat and chobby :S

Agreed. Something just seems...off.

Looks to be less aero than the C240 -- more like the E320.
These are great cars. I've owned a C240 4Matic and it is a far more functional vehicle than a mid-sized crossover, plus it has a ride quality equal to the sedan.
If they put a clean-burn diesel in the new ones, I'll buy one.

I have no doubt about its functionality. I like Merc wagons (and wagons in general) and would love to own one. Maybe it's a mix of the camo and the angle, but something strikes me as odd.

Am I the only one who thinks that MB is losing the exclusitivity of the AMG brand by slapping that new V8 in EVERY single model line?

Look to me as if the front suspension has broken!

Even though AMG has a full line-up, their exclusivity comes from low production numbers and significant price premiums. There exists a demand for AMG variants in every Class of the MB line-up; and if MB can profit by satisfying that demand (and achieve certain economies of scale by using a single engine in most offerings), more power to them. Furthermore, AMG customers are likely to migrate up the AMG portfolio over time, validating a more "accessible," "entry" offering such as the C63.

Hope it's got a more functional upright rear tail angle. That whole fast-back look on the former car is what steered me away. It looked ok, but it funked up the capacity. If I want a wagon, I kinda want it to haul like a wagon. Not a fast back. Cheers to them if it's got better interior room. Now, if they can make the side mirrors fold in, like a Kia, that would be luxury. Never understood why MB prefers fixed side mirrors like a cheap Cavalier.
