Yet more on the Corvette Blue Devil... or should we say Sting Ray?
As AutoWeek reports, it's no wonder General Motors PR and product guys smile wryly when they responded in the negative to questions about the automaker's plans for the Corvette Blue Devil. They weren't lying, really, because the oft-rumored supercar has now supposedly earned itself the Sting Ray moniker instead. The vehicle, likely slated for production starting in 2007, will sport goodies even an owner of a Z06 (pictured) would drool over, like a supercharged 7.0-liter 600-hp V8 with a carbon fiber hood. At a price of $100,000, somebody had better be drooling (and signing up for special driving classes to handle all those ponies).

A person can do that to their own corvette a whole lot cheaper.

Don't bother posting what you have no idea about. Yes, doing so could save you thousands but you void the warranty and if anything happens to go wrong you are out of luck. People who purchase this car are those wanting all the power and performance it offers while also being confident their investment will last.

nah dog, a civic can make 600 hp easy and then you get a turbo and vetech so its really a no brainer. plus the superior handling of fwd. fo realz doglets.

I thought Sting Ray was the name that Chevy was going to use for their fixed roof Solistice?

A Lingenfelter Z06 LPE with 616hp can be had for $88K. And it comes with a warranty. So, why would you buy this?

i heard the same thing Tony. So... the only logical answer is that the Sting Ray will be a hard top chevy Solstice with a supercharged 7.0L V8, obviously.

Chevy needs a supercharger to get 600 HP from a 7 litre engine? 86 HP/L on a blown engine... Let's see, M-B gets over 600 from a blown 5.4L, Ferrari gets 650 from a 6.0L NATURAL engine, and Porsche gets 605 from a NATURAL 5.7L (108HP/L and 106HP/L, respectively).
Before you all complain, I understand that the Vette is MUCH cheaper than these other exotics; but, if Chevy wants to truly compete with the world's best cars they have got to get it together technologically. If the Corvette is every going to move beyond the mullet and strip club crowd, they've got to do something more impressive than this. Throwing a carbon fiber hood on a car just doesn't get it done.

that whole sting ray based on solstice was 1 article in one magazine based on hersay. it was said that it was going to be a dohc v6 car using the kappa platform priced between the solstice and corvette. wasnt really based on anything.

zach, your an idiot. the 7 liter v8 weighs less and is more compact than any of the engines you have listed above. hp/liter is about the most meaningless stat about an engine there is.
you critize the corvette for being low tech but it does a better job than all the hitech alternatives for much less money. you seem to define technonlgy as hp/liter so your a lost cause. enjoy your type r homeskillit fo shizzul.

I love the car already, but.... and this coming from a current Vette owner, this will be a mistake, or if anything a very limited production. $100,000 gets you in close to better performing exotics, they need to stick with what works, the average Joe's supercar.
And for those that don't know, there are 600-800HP Vettes out there, built for far less money.

#12, what "better preforming exotics" are there for about $100k? the zo6 is faster than every ferrari currently for sale (the enzo is not for sale). yes faster than the f430. it is faster than every bwm, merc (except the mclaren slr), faster than every porsche except the CGT (which has finished its production run) and 911gt3. the ford gt is very close in performance to the zo6 and that is about to finish its production run.
i think its safe to assume that the stingray will be faster than the zo6 and will probably stack up well against supercars costing over 4 times the price let alone stuff in the same price range.

#13 you have no clue what your talking about. All I will have anymore is a Chevy or a GM because every one of my investments last when I stay with these. You're still stuck in the early to mid "80's". Wake up we're now in the next "century". Any time I venture away from GM it bites me, and I'm back. So go play with your Jap-Junk while my investments continue to last.

#13 you don't know what you're talking about, you're still stuck in the early to mid "80's". This is a new "century". All my GM investments have lasted a long time. The only reason these new "vettes" may not last is because they may and up in too many high speed accidents with out of controll people. But that won't happen either with most of the owners of this price range being more sensible people.

NAGGS: It is pretty sad that you have to call me an idiot to try to make a point. Also, I have no idea what "enjoy your type r homeskillit fo shizzul" means. Try English and proper grammar next time. If you had bothered to actually think about what I wrote, you may have gotten the point. I think the Z06 is a tremendous car both in terms of value and certainly in terms of performance. The point I am making by referencing the engine statistics is that the Vette is never going to compete in the same market as Ferraris, Porsches, etc. in its current form. Consumers purchase those exotics because they represent the absolute best in automotive engineering and capabilities (yes, i know there are those who buy them because they are egomanical idiots, i mean people who actully love cars). The Z06 cannot compete in that regard. It is not necessarily a worse car; but it is less advanced, and inherently less desirable to those of us who appreciate cars that are at the cutting edge of the car industry. That's all I'm saying... and yes the Vette's engine may weigh less but is hanging over the wrong wheels

Zack: You make sence but I still like my engins over the front wheels. Maybe when I am in the market for that price range I will have some of both types, but I still like American muscle.
