Kyle Busch gets fined by NASCAR & sent to his room without dinner
Kyle Busch, apparently gunning for the Ron Artest Sportsman Award and determined to displace Robby Gordon as one of America's favorite "love to hate" stars in stock-car racing, had his wallet dinged to the tune of $50,000 for throwing a safety device onto the racetrack during Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 event at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The intended victim of the lob was Casey Mears, in what appears to be a continuation of the lovefest between the two drivers (earlier in the season, Busch tapped Mears during a red flag).
In addition to the financial penalty - tied for the second-largest ever levied by NASCAR - Mears was hit with a 25-point penalty and put on "probation" for the rest of the season. Car owner Rick Hendrix was also docked 25 points.

I thought this was an automotive blog, not a driver blog...this has nothing to do with the cars.
I don't have a shotgun rack in my rear window, I don't eat possum chili, and I'm not married to my cousin, so I don't want to know about NASCAR regardless.

hmmm, driver's throwing weapons at each other during the race....... this might actually make watching 2 hours of left turns interesting

I’m with Jason, on all counts. Unless you are showing us a new NASCAR ‘race’ (and I use that word, really, really loosely) car (and please, don’t even do that), I really don’t think we are interested. Going around a lap track over and over again doesn’t show that you’re a good driver; it shows that you really like going left over and over again, and can do so without falling asleep at the wheel. If these guys had any skill, they would actually be driving in circuits with actual non-mono-directional turns in them.
Jon.

The second paragraph of the write-up is wrong: Mears was not fined.

If you insist on showing your willingness to stereotype people that enjoy things that you don't, please do it elsewhere.

hahahaha...Jason I couldn't agree more...no one with any brain cells gives a damn about a bunch of ignorant rednecks making left turns all day long and throwing garbage at each other...too bad SPEED can't show a real, challenging, sport like rally racing at anything except the most ungodly hour of the night, thanks to all the rabid rednecks that need to have their fix of the latest bucktoothed dumbass to crash into a wall making a left turn...

Camp, you really think I was being entirely serious? I'm sure NASCAR fans, on occasion, eat normal chili just like everyone else.

I'm just questioning the validity of lambasting NASCAR fans in a thread about NASCAR simply because you are not a fan. If you don't like NASCAR, don't post.

Labeling NASCAR fans as "rednecks" or inbreeds is about classy and accurate as labeling all F1 and Rally fans as "queers" and "butt pirates". Give it a rest!

I don't watch NASCAR, I'm not into any kind of racing much, but to all you NASCAR haters think about this. The French family owns every last NASCAR lug-nut, it's a family enterprise, no public stockholders, just the French family. They sell franchises to the NASCAR name kind of like McDonalds & Kentucky Fried Chicken sells their name. The French Family are hugely successful & hugely rich, they help employ thousands of people and bring millions of dollars to local businesses and towns hosting NASCAR events.
You may not like their style of racing but they got one hell of a successful business model.

at least a queer or butt pirate doesn't sleep with his sister Chris...and don't take it from me, just look at the fans you see at these races

Let me see...
Straight for a bit.... left turn... left turn... straight a bit more... left turn... left turn... repeat 'til fade.
I don't care if they do it at 200mph - BORING.
NASCAR *hates* coming to Sears^H^H^H^H^H Infineon Raceway. they have to completely mod the suspension so that the cars can do RIGHT turns too.

Campisi is questioning the validity of a joke.
...
I don't even know how to respond to that.
Anyway, before this got sidetracked...I really still think this post should not be here. It's not about the actual NASCAR cars, it's about the drivers. One jerk is mad at another guy...so what?
I don't find the races or the drivers interesting, but the cars themselves...sure, they're cool in a low-tech and brute force kind of way.

Interesting stuff. I especially liked the "The interior of a NASCAR racer is not a pretty sight. It looks like the aftermath of a horrible bicycle accident."

You're right, they would sleep with their brother! Anyways, I have seen the fans at a NASCAR race, as I have seen the crowd at the Indy 500 and at the U.S. Grand Prix and to be honest there isn't a big difference. If you think there is you are simply in denial or have little facts to your claim. In fact, a Speedway Indiana police officer told me a couple of years ago that the NASCAR crowd is a better crowd and they have fewer arrests than for the Indy 500 or the USGP. That's no B.S. it's the god's honest truth.

"If you don't like NASCAR, don't post."
Well said, Campisi. Come on, guys - let's attempt to show just the slightest amount of maturity.
Jason, we here at Autoblog attempt to give at least some minimal coverage of motorsports, which often is more about the drivers than it is about the cars. There aren't any rules here at AB that says that each and every post has to be about a car and only a car; in fact, ignoring the human aspect of any story gets boring damn quickly. Consider this to be the norm until we advance to the point where cars are designed, built, driven, and raced without human assistance.

If you only accept positive remarks as being the "correct" ones, I suggest turning off comments entirely.

There is a big difference between positive comments and mature or respectful comments. You can dislike NASCAR all you want but when you stereotype the fans as "rednecks" you really do a disservice to your opinion. If all NASCAR fans are rednecks then there sure are alot of them in the world.
