Porsche unveils 911 GT3 RS
Porsche 911 GT3 just not hot enough for ya? With the demise of the GT Carrera, it might be of interest to Porschephiles that the automaker has unveiled an even hotter version of the 977-based GT3 dubbed... wait for it... the 911 GT3 RS. Well, for the European market, at least... something that we're not happy about over on this side of the Pond. Porsche likes to think of it as its purest street-legal race car out there, but we think of it as BADASS, with its exclusive close-ratio six-speed transmission and weight savings of 44 lbs. The less-is-more dictum sees the GT3's naturally-aspirated 3.6L six-cylinder pounce on 60 mph in 4.2 seconds from a dead stop. It might be street legal on the outside, but on the inside, it's all race car -- roll cage, racing harness for the driver, fire extinguisher, and alacantra-clad racing seats.
The new RS will be available in four colors -- Black, Silver, Orange or Green, sporting either black or orange wheels depending on the exterior. Check out the company's new microsite for the hot-shoe here.
We've got dibs.

It's a nice Porsche that's tuned pretty extensively. However... have you seen the Zazen Porsche? I mean, wow... that car really stands out. It's amazing.
I'm trying to secure a test drive, but so far... not successful.
Can anyone in the NE portion of the US lend me one for a day or two?

It may be Europe only buy you'll notice it IS left hand drive, you could probably get away with it for a while. I mean, if Stefan Eriksson can do it...

It's definitely faster than the ZO6 on the 'ring. The standard GT3 was already as fast/er than the ZO6.

At the very moment, I am liquidating my assets. I have a small 1950's ranch, a clean '94 968, a well trained dog and a loyal girlfriend.
Do I hear a 997 GT3 RS, going once...

The press release from Porsche said that this car IS coming to the US in 2007. It's not a Europe only model.

Two errors in the original post:
1. It's based on a type 997 (not 977) 911.
2. The referenced car is named "Carrera GT", not a "GT Carrera"

This isn't a car you get to show off to your friends - it is a street-legal (barely) race-prepped machine.
It is built for homologation purposes, so it can be raced in a class with other "production" cars.
If you want a little more refinement, get the GT3 - if you want fast and luxurious, pony up for the 997 Turbo.

huh, ive heard that the zo6 did a 7.33 dont know where i heard that. 3 sec isnt much on the 12 mile track but it is sugnificant assuming that tires, weather, fuel load ect were consistant.
