Spy Shots: 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible
The 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible has been caught on camera during testing, and as AutoWeek points out the new drop top shows more massaged sheetmetal than its flat-sided sedan sibling due out as a 2007 model. The Sebring sedan is slated to receive a trifecta of powerplants including the 2.4L four-cylinder World Engine, a standard and flex-fuel version of the 2.7L V6 and a high power 3.5L V6. No word on what engines will be available with the convertible, but we suspect the 2.4L four and the 3.5L V6 are locks. [Source: AutoWeek]

Pretty hard to see any innovation under that guise. My guess is DCX will take a conservative, Toyota/Honda approach to this design. When you have the world's best selling convertible, you don't rock the boat, unfortunately.

Hopefully the final model will be more disguised.

Domestic sales for 2005 put the Sebring almost 9000 units behind the Mustang, and both were well off sales several years ago. Is the Sebring that popular outside North America?

The figure I'm familiar with is a 2004 world wide sales number. You're right about the 2005 sales of the new Mustang in the U.S. 8705 more Mustangs were sold here than the 6 year old Sebring. But, the convertible market swelled to 324,000, a clean 9% increase since a 2003 number of 295,000. 9% of 295,000, or 29,000 cars made plenty of market available for the Mustang, (perhaps all Mustangs?), not eroding nor threatening Sebring's consistent sales. The Mustang deserves the nod for innovation and freshness in a retro-style. Sebring better have a very fresh look to stay competitive. It still has to have the strength and room to seat 3 beauty queens for city parades!

But i always thought Mustang/Sebrings weren't mentioned in the same breath... much like a PT Crusier/Mustang or Neon/Mustang.
yeah they're both 2 doors and convertible... but they're wholly a different market approach i felt.

The base Mustang Convertible, V6-Auto, pretty much sells to the same crowd. Young women, older drivers wanting a convertible, parade officials, families with a minivan who need a little excitement still, but need room for car seat and kids, gay men, and rental companies. This is a big "niche", the non-performance, classy, dependable convertible that can seat 5! The Mustang Standard Convertible, with anti-lock brakes, auto, and side air bags options (no new car should be ordered w/out the latest safety features i say) it goes for $24,646 invoice-price-to deal. The Sebring comes with all that standard at $24,874 invoice. Yes they are very competitive in their main selling market, safe and a lot of drop top fun!

Hmm seems like the biggest complaint is about the seats. It looks nice, but honestly have they really changed the sebrings body at all since 1998? I found a fuller review at cardevotion (http://cardevotion.com/Vehicles/2085/Review/2008_Chrysler_Sebring_Convertible.html).
