Spotted! BMW's M3
Matze328 from the m3post.com forum spotted the new BMW M3 in just a little bit of camo, making for some of the best pics we've seen yet of the vehicle. If rumors are to be believed, the new model will sport a high-revving V8 engine with at least 400 hp on tap -- two cylinders and a good 70 horses better than the last one. The upgrades level the playing field between the Bimmer and its competition, namely the Audi RS4, which puts out a whopping 420 hp.
Thanks to Jason for the tip.

It really surprised me how slow sometimes Autoblog can be. These pictures have been all over the net for quite a while. Also I thought it was a NA V8 and not turbocharged.

Uh, there are zero rumors about a V8 with turbo in the M3. If it were turbo, the car would have over 500 hp - which would match the M5/M6 (and have more torque). No chance BMW will outfit the 4.0 V8 with a turbo. Not sure where you guys get your info but it's not gonna happen - especially with the M division that's openly stated they will continue to be NA only.

you're right on the turbo, sorry 'bout that -- there's a turbocharged I6 at the top of the 3-series range and I misread that somewhere thinking that it was the M3. changed the post.

What?!! Erin wrote a post that's not criticizing GM? Stop the presses. As for any BMW news, Autoblog has always been a few months behind. Autoblog's always preferred spending the time relaying the press releases from the Japanese imports.
As for the new M3, it'll be interesting to see whether they configure it with understeer like the e46 M3. That's probably the one thing that most e46 M3 owners hate (though it's somewhat easy to fix but it's a hassle).

So what part of easy to fix is a hassle, or is it?

Yeah. Just step on the gas in the corner.

Since the M3 is sold to the general public and since dealers can't have you take a test to prove that 1) you have a brain, 2) that you have common sense and 3) you can actually drive -- companies have to make compromises.
It?s a lot easier for the average person to drive a car that understeers (let off the gas) than one that oversteers so they make the compromise. You really cannot have a neutral car because too much depends on road condition, tires, etc.
Many an M3 is sold to ?image? crowd or driven by teenagers with parents that have more money than sense so you need to make something that will not kill the little brats on their first ride off the lot.
If it?s an easy fix, what is the big deal?
Most e46 M3 owners who hate it are driving enthusiasts and you can never make most enthusiasts happy no matter how hard you try. The true enthusiasts will do the proper tweaks to track their cars anyway so I fail to see the problem.
