BMW 5-Series breaks cover on Autobild?

The cover of German magazine Autobild is plastered with a pair of pics showing what the next BMW 5-Series might look like. Codenamed F10, it appears to take some styling cues from the well received 3-Series, especially up front with those edgy headlights that flow around the hood and up the fenders. The vehicle's posterior (see after jump) is a little harder to pin down, with taillights that lean forward like those on the Toyota Avalon. Autobild's renderings, which appear to be based on actual spy shots, show a larger sedan than the current model.

Styling cues from the 3 series? - Me thinks not! More like the X3 in front. In back - me thinks its looking a little to "Lexusy". Ouch! And where's the Bangle butt?

The next M5 or the next 5 series? On the front it says "The Next 5" not "The Next M5", and why would they go back to two tailpipes coming from a V10? Makes no sense at all, get your speculative facts straight...
Also, you guys are a day late and a dollar short as usual: Left Lane News had this up yesterday: http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/05/18/will-the-next-bmw-5-series-look-like-this/

Have you seen the new 3 series tail lights? This 5's definitely taking styling ques from that, not the X3 or a Kia, etc. (though I do detect more than a little Infiniti/Lexus action there)...

I don't buy it. The front is way too angular compared to the rear of it. Doesn't matter to me anyhow, it will be years (if ever) before I could justify spending that much money on a car.

I love the comeback of the fender! The Mazda RX-8 was the boldest front fender design around...just gorgeous shrouds around the front wheels. I want to see a real fender, one that doesn't mirror the hood/engine enclosure, and snarks around the tire cupping the water/snow/dirt instead of a big long box with some mechanicals inside. Bring it on!

Sorry, but my heart still lies close with the G35. I mean, wow, sure it doesn't have 500 bhp, but come on, it's a sweet, cheaper, excellent ride. I liked the Rx8 but the engine got on my nerves.

Argh, am I the only one who misses the orange side-lashes? In my opinion, one of the greatest design bits of the current 5 is those gorgeous headlights.

I currently own a 2004 5-series and love the design. This new design? Hope it's only a trial balloon!
Message to anyone from BMW reading this:
As a BMW owner, although I could put up with the "re-freshed" front-end, the rear is UGLY! Looks more like an Avalon! Fire the guy who came up with that idea!
Hope that BMW doesn't mess this up like it did the 6-series, that back-end of which looks like a Dodge stratus - hope it get's re-designed soon.
Also, Stoneman... when I was shopping around and comparing cars, I looked at the G35... while it looks nice from the outside, it is NO comparison to the BMW in any way, shape, or form.

I respect BMW for the design leap it took a few years back, but it needs to evolve into a more definitive design statement(losing dame edna lights was good).I kind of view the current 5 series generation styling as transitional.sort of like an awkward car-design adolescence.BMW needs to take what works on the current 5 and improve it to maturity.
