An ex-government official in the growing Hyundai scandal was found dead Sunday of an apparent suicide. Park Seok-an, under suspicion for bribery in the Korean automaker corruption case was found dead in a lake-he had been slated to appear in the prosecutor's office the same morning, having already been questioned five times on suspicion of taking bribes in exchange for business favors while he was a director-general at a city hall housing division.

A combination will/suicide note alluding to the investigation was found at his home in Seoul.

John, while I would agree there is a certain unhealthy tendancy to over focus on work, I would tend to disagree that he kiiled himself because his work was gone.

I would wager his suicide was motivated by the disgrace he caused himself and his family.

Too bad the Enron guys don't have the same moral compass.

"Too bad the Enron guys don't have the same moral compass."

That was the same thing I thought when I read the story. Instead they use the money they stole from share holders and pension funds to hire a team of the best lawyers to get them off.

It seems like in Asian culture, work is everything.
When you are a child, you study hard, go to prep school, go to extra schooling, to get a good job.
When you are an adult, you work hard for... hm. Something.
Then, when the work is gone, there is no more reason to live.

      Crazy Asian culture.
