Retro radio with ultra modern features

Love that old interior in your restoration project but can't live without satellite navigation, MP3 and Bluetooth? Becker's Mexico "Classic" radio looks old on the outside but packs the latest techno wizardy behind its piano black lacquer faceplate. This $1,895 head unit can read your cell phone's SIM card or a Compact Flash or SD card filled with music. It also features its own 2GB flash card that stores nav data for over 34 countries. Built-in Bluetooth gives you handsfree calling, as well. Thanks to Becker you can now combine that classic look you love with your modern high-tech toys you can't live without.

An interesting design...but pretty tacky. I think if you made it look "real" old by taking the guts of an old 8-track am/fm stereo and stuffed it with GPS NAV, SD/MMC, and blue tooth, then, THEN you'd have something.

My friend had a 1969 Plymouth Fury II. It came with a AM radio...thats it. He was planning on doing a full restoration of the car but unfortunately some idiot hit him. Anyways, he wanted to keep the stock radio or find a radio that was AM and FM. While looking online he came across a company that would refit the original radio with Kenwood (I think) inner parts. It was pretty pricey but not as bad as this Becker radio.

Becker Mexico was a HORRIBLE radio back then. What the heck are they thinking bringing back that name?
It would be like Ford bringing back the Edsel or Pinto name!

This is way cool! I'll take mine with a Porsche 356 wrapped around it.
By the way, the original Becker Mexico was pretty hi-tech in its day. The first car radio to have automatic station search. Very swank for 1953.

The updated Becker Mexico is a superb idea. For anyone with a classic that lacks the modern conveniences that many of us have come to appreciate of contemporary cars, the benefit is obvious. Who wants to put an ugly new Alpine in one's 70's SL anyway?

While I'm not very fond of this specific design, I like the idea of retro-styled auto sound system. The neon and flash of most car radios now are just a bit overwhelming, featuring an overload of graphics fluff to appeal to the younger, ADD set.
Certainly, the ultramodern styling of most audio decks now are, at best, mismatched with the retro looks of even come newer cars now, much less restored older vehicles. If you've seen a glitzy Sony Xplod jutting out of the spartan dash of an old Beetle, well, you know just how tacky that can look...

Yuck.
Any H/K aftermarket radio, particuarly those with in-board navigation, suck more than a Dyson on 440 volts.
