Prevent wheel theft by stupid thieves

This concept is so crazy it just might work... or not, but at least it's funny. The pic of this VW Golf with virtually-stolen wheels appears to be some type of viral promotion for an insurance company, though details are scare.

Haha, that is funny...
Would be weird seeing someone put these things on every time they parked...

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just get locking lug-nuts?
Besides, any thief with 1/2 a brain could just see through the ruse, take off the fake "don't look here, theif, my wheels are already gone" do-dah, and steal the wheels - then put the fake covers back on so when the owner comes, THEY'd get a surprise.
If it weren't for liability issues, someone could rig up their car to give a hell of a shock to anyone stupid enough to touch it (just as people used to do with their Model T's - but then, Ford only provided ONE key-cut for every single Model T ever built....)

This is very strange. I had a date with a young lady years ago who wore a chastity belt designed with the same idea. It didn't stop me.

Wow, that is one bad Photoshop job.

Uh, not to be picky, but where are the shadows?
And a good point on the OP, if there's no wheels, what's holding the car up? Need virtual jacks.

Glenn,
I'm a big fan of the classic 'coil-surprise'.
Unfortunately, in the land of liability you will now get sued. Worse still, you'd fry your ECMs.
However, I've noticed that I often forget razor blades when I install stereos in my vehicles. Once, a long time ago, somebody was apparently trying to steal my stereo and found one. There was a pretty solid blood trail for about 50 feet away from the car.
Naturally, I felt terrible. I was hoping they'd leave a finger behind so I could find them and apologize, but no such luck. Maybe next time.

I saw an old episode of the BBC series Jonathan Creek recently where the female lead came out of her apartment one morning to find that her Volvo wagon had been booted. Turned out, she had gotten the BOOT from a "friendly" cop and used it less as an anti-theft device, but more so that she could park ANYWHERE. (Cops don't put more than one boot on a car.)

gbh: But, did they get the stereo? I like the idea... how exactly did you arrange the razor blades before you "forgot" them? :-)
