How about a $9,000 car wash?

As another sign of just how
different the wealthy live, Autoblog sibling
Luxist posted a report from Guardian
Unlimited about Paul Dalton and his car wash service,
Miracle Detail.
Dalton, according to the
news source, charges over a staggering
$9,000 for his top-of-the line Pinnacle car wash. The near two-week,
52-step program includes citrus degreasing, filtered water, and many sponges and buckets. The car wax alone, at $13,000
a tube, costs more than the service itself. Dalton, however, points out that the service protects the car for a year.
(Hats off to Dhiram and Noah!)

And I thought Zaino was kind of expensive...

I guess it's for those who want to send their cars to car shows or have their own personal car museum. In other words it's not for cars that are actually used. Otherwise it's pointless to pay $9K for full blown detailing IMHO.

Anyone who waxes their everyday car for just once a year and expects the wax to last more than a month is a complete idiot.
On a garaged, weekender Lambo, however, it's likely. But then again, so would doing it yourself with Griot's Best of Show Wax for $20 and a couple hours of wax on/wax off.

$9,000 is more than 10 years of income for many people in SOuth Asia. Well, you may that 'it's my money and I have earned it'. May be you are right but I just wish that some people could donate some more money to save some poor farmers from comitting suicide (http://www.southasiabiz.com/suicide/) as they cannot pay the loans because of bird flu or a natural disaster.

i will step up to the plate here and offer the same service for a mere $4500 for those of you on a budget.
Ford Mustang @ May 5th 2006 10:27AM
Let the bidding start at $4500. Forty five hundred hundred, do i hear thirty five? Thirty five thirty five, how about four?
Ok, i guess my auctioneer routine doesnt work so well when its typed out...LOL
I think post #2 was spot on.

Why do they allow Razib to post that?
Rick T @ May 5th 2006 10:45AM
Hmmm...I thought I learned in carwash 101 to always use a separate rinse bucket. Also to use a lambswool or MF mitt because the fibers carry the dirt particles into the mitt and away from the car finish.

What I wouldn't give to be a bird, and fly over the car of someone dumb enough to pay this much for a wash and poop all over it!!!

"As another sign of just how different the wealthy live,"
the first sentence of this post is a reminder that wealthy people have different lifestyle and I just commented on that. Here I guess, the main issue is not the car wash but spending $9000. You have the right to agree or disagreee with me. So, criticize my point of view instead of just trying to stop me.
Howard Kerr @ May 5th 2006 11:17AM
For me to pay $9000 for having a car detailed, I would have to have the person doing the job "on call" 24/7 so he or she can wipe even the smallest speck of dust off my vehicle.
Man, $9000, how many people in the world are driving a car that is even WORTH 9 grand? Does this kind of person pay use $100 bills instead of T.P.?
AAM @ May 5th 2006 11:30AM
Put me in the "The rich live very differently/A fool & his money camp" maybe it's trickle down economics? Just amazing how envious some people can be.
Olivier @ May 5th 2006 11:57AM
Howard, if you look at the video in the link I posted above you will see that for that price the guy will come to you wherever you are in less than 2 ours, wipe the bird shit off and give it some TLC for *FREE*

"12. Why do they allow Razib to post that?"
Because it's true. Whether it's nice to think about or not, that's reality.
Don't you ever wonder about how different the world might be if the top 1% of the wealthy donated, say, .05% of their yearly income to those in need? This article shows how little they'd suffer for it--they could get the $7,000 car wash instead of the $9,000 one. Or Paris Hilton could buy a $20,000 designer purse instead of a $25,000 one. Anyway, I'm getting well off the topic.
Krishna Das @ May 5th 2006 1:25PM
What if a bird poops as soon as I come out of the 9000 car wash?
